I hope Kelli O'Hara wins as a supporting actress.I don't care about any of the 5 actresses nominated for best leading actress. Sutton Foster was good in LW but she won a Tony already, and the show was weak. Sherie Rene Scott couldn't show her talent in DRS...so i don't think it would be fair if she wins the Tony. Haven't seen "Chitty Bang Bang" ...so i can't tell about that actress. Christina Applegate tries hard in SC and she is great...but not that great to deserve a Tony, but the fact she got to open her show on Bway is reward enough ,i think.
If replacements could be nominated for Tonys i think it would go for Brooke Shields or maybe Tamyra Gray, those 2 actresses were the best actresses of the season in my point of view, despite no one believed in any of them. But Victoria Clark may win and she is a good singer.....as an actress she is ok though.

I think Victoria should win without question - but I also felt that way about Tonya last year, so what do I know.

Victoria, but I have a soft spot for Sherie.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I feel like-- and correct me if I'm wrong-- that's the way it was last year. Tonya was to win, but everyone had a soft spot for Idina... and Idina won.
Personally... I love SRS and I hope she takes it home...

I would really like to see Sherie Rene Scott win. She's so talented and is wonderful in DRS. I've heard great things about Victoria Clark though; so I think they are the two real competitors. I saw Sutton's u/s but as a character I think she had more with Millie. We'll see though. Good luck Sherie!

Clark will win; if not, it will be a huge upset.
But I WANT christina or sherie to win.

Rachel York should win, and it greatly annoys me that you can't be nominated if you're off b-way

Well that's what the Off-Broadway award shows are for.
I think Victoria Clark has it in the bag, but there is a chance that Saint Christina could pull off an upset and take the trophy home.

I think there are only two real competitors in this year's race: Applegate and Clark.
Sutton's too close to her last Tony win and her performance isn't head-and-shoulders above anyone else's in this category this year.
Sherie and Erin Dilly are suffering from roles that are only considered lead because of their billing.
Victoria and Applegate are truly leads in their respective shows...and there's the difference.
That said, I think the industry's ready to reward one of their own, who has worked hard as a replacement or secondary character for years and is now breaking out in an amazingly textured and nuanced performance. So Clark will win.
I'm seeing Charity tonight and will know whether or not my opinion will stick.

Interesting point about Dilly and Scott's roles there. So here's a question. Given how crowded out the Supporting category is this year, do you think if they had been submitted as Supporting and not Leading, they would have been nominated at all?

Having seen Applegate, Scott and Clark, I'd give it to Applegate or Scott. I don't know why I didn't see what others saw in Clark's performance. I adored "Piazza" and thought she was very good. It was my favorite musical this year and I thought Morrison and O'Hara were absolutely luminous. Perhaps Clark was having an 'off' night? Again, not that she wasn't good, I just thought Morrison, O'Hara and the rest of the cast outshone her.

Sherie would have been nominated in Featured I am almost certain. But her role is NOT small, yes she does not show up until the end of the first act, but still manages two first act songs. She has as many songs as Clarke, and more time on stage than Dilly (who I agree should have been in Featured and probably would not have been nominated there.)
But Sherie's role is a leading role.

I dunno, Pengy. I still feel like it's a very boosted supporting role. Erin Dill's role as Truly is even moreso (a supporting role given top billing).
I think Scott would have scored a nom if she had been supporting (probably bumping Keenan-Bolger or O'Hara) and her chances of winning would probably be stronger.
I'm going to reiterate my support for Clark here, giving an absolutely thorough performance in Piazza. And she might not sing more than anyone else in the show, but having 400 solos does not a leading role make. She's onstage the most, carrying the burden of the dialogue and arc, and her character is the central one in the story. And she's pulling it off remarkably.

Princeton - it is, of course, completely subjective (I thought Natasha in STREETCAR was horrendous, while apparently almost everyone else thinks she's wonderful) But I not only think Victoria is giving the best musical performance, I think she's giving the best acting performance - musical OR play.

I didn't care for PIAZZA and I love good PR stories so I'd prefer to see Christina Applegate win, but I think everyone is pretty certain that Clark is a lock. I just wish she'd stop watching STEEL MAGNOLIAS to learn her southern accent....

I liked Sutton Foster a lot! I kind of wish she would win... but alas I don't think that she will. I still like her a lot!

Clark is from Texas and has actually lived in North Carolina. I know it seems funny but having lived in North Carolina and had many conversations with the class and age of woman Clark is playing, I must say her accent is dead on.
bwaysinger- I agree that Scott would have a better chance in Featured and may actually have pulled out a win there, but when I watch the show when Sherie is there it is really close to becoming her show. It probably is a puffed up Featured Role, but I think it is right on the cusp.

I'm from Texas and South Carolina and I thought Clark's accent was pretty inconsistant. She may be from the southern part of the country, but she was definitely attempting some sort of dialect. She doesn't speak like that in person.

Clark definitely doesn't speak like that in person, but that's because she, like I, dropped her southern accent over the years. I can pull it out but it's also rather generalized. I do think she got a sort of aristocratic southern accent very well nailed...she reminded me of my old Literature teacher in college. he spoke very similarly.
Pengy, I agree. Sherie is VERY good at stealing the show. And the character she has to play does give her some juicy, fun moments.
I'd just like to see her get a role and a proper nomination when she could be a stronger possibility.
