What character do you think has the best entrance in a Broadway show? Why?

Edna in the exploding can of Hairspray. Need I say more?
Norma Desmond coming down the staircase in "Sunset Blvd"
Fruma Sarah in Fiddler is pretty cool
Glinda in Wicked
I love the Entrance of "Modern Millie"....OBC...
fastest costume change ever
Velma Kelly appearing in sillouette at the climax of the overture for "Chicago." It's stunning.

Definitely Rose's entrance in 'Gypsy'. This has to be one of the most unusual.
RENT when Angel makes her first entrance in drag in the santa get up with the pink light behind her... awesome!

Yankeefan007, that's not his first entrance. Are we talking first entrances? Ehhh. Uh, the best? I'd say Roger DeBris in The Producers. I knew it was coming, and it still blew me away. Of course, Carmen's entrance is right up there with his - his walk is hilarious, and I love his line when he answers the phone. "Listen, you broken-down old queen! He was drunk, he was hot, he was lucky. Don't ever call here again!"
I think that's it. *wanders off to put that in her signature*
Well, I don't know it this is a thread about the entrance of the character the first time we see them on stage or anytime they enter the stage.
One of my favorites is the entrance of The Wiz in the Broadway musical of the same name (not that movie of The Wiz that Blows . . . . Chunks!)
I second Rose's entrnace in GYPSY.
It's so unexpected, yet consistently keeping in touch with the role and musical.
It makes you feel more like a part of the show. I've seen GYPSY with been Angela Lansbury and Tyne Daly and both times it sent goosepimples up my spine!
It's... THEATER!!! :)
Carla in the revival of nine! so amazing!
i too really like millie's entrance, so simple yet so good.
also glinda in wicked
Rose's is so exciting because she walks in yelling from the back of the house, right through the audience. That's a very special kind of effect that can't be beaten by exploding hairspray cans or glass bubbles.

Right now it's Glinda.
The excitement of a new show sticks with me for a while and I only got to see it a few months ago for the first time.
What a great thread!
I have to say the best musical theater entrance ever has to be for Sweeney in "Sweeney Todd." You have the build-up throughout the opening number, and then the chorus, in cresendo, going "SWEENEY, SWEENEY, SWEENEY, SWEENEY, SWEEEEEEEENEEEEEEEY!" And then he appears out of the grave (or the crowd, as in the Hearn-Lansbury video). Friggin' awesome!

Millie. It always gave me chills. Mama Rose is a great one too.
I love Rose's in Gypsy. "Sing out, Louise!"
Other awesome entrances:
Hedwig in his cape in the beginning of Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Harold Hill appearing in the train car in Music Man
Bat Boy appearing in the dark cave in Bat Boy
I always liked how the wizard came in through the door. And out through the floor.

I have to say. Dr. Frank-n-furter's entrance in Rocky Horror in the lastest Broadway run was great. The way he entered from the ceiling was great.
I agree that Sweeney's entrance is awesome. I also love Oscar Jaffee's entrance in "On the Twentieth Century." He had to jump aboard the train by hanging on and climbing through a window. Pretty funny.
Dr. F RHPS no doubt...
Rose in Gypsy is of course amazing.
I've always liked Amneris's entry in Aida, if you can call it an entrance.
Also the entrance of the animals in the opening to the lion king is by far the most worthwhile part of the show.
