Unquestionably, CHAPTER 54, NUMBER 1909, from SEESAW. I saw the show 5 times, and 5 times, it stopped the show, cold! I've never seen anything that good, before it, or since.

cant think of too many others...
Tommy Tune's choreography for "We'll Take a Glass Together" from Grand Hotel (and Michael Jeter's astonishing performance)
Savion Glover's solo at the end of Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk (where he recreates all of the styles of the old masters of tap)
Bob Fosse and Ben Vereen's Glory from Pippin
Anything in Jelly's Last Jam
I would have to say "The More We Dance" from DRS. It's so nice and very full of energy.
I also like "The Latest Rag" from Titanic. That's a very traditional dance number from a show, only this one just seems a big different to me :shrugs:

Am I the only person who dislikes the choreography for "You Can't Stop the Beat"? I find it awfully anti-climactic and static. Boring. "I have an idea! Let's all stand on risers and do 60's dance move after 60's dance move." It seemed his choreo for the entire show was simply about showcasing 60's dance moves with little or no transitional steps.
Anyway, I would vote for "Can't Be Bothered Now" from Crazy for You and "Will-A-Mania" from Will Rogers Follies.
I absolutely loved all of the ensemble dance numbers in DRS (Oklahoma, The More We Dance, Giving Them What They Want)
"On Your Toes" from the revival of On Your Toes.
It blew me away. George Balanchine's original choregraphy mixed with Donald Saddler and Peter Martin's additional/updated material. It was a "dance off" between the American hoofers and the Russian ballet dancers. It started out with separate groups on each side of the stage, and Christine Andreas singing the tune. They began to mix and match dance steps, so as a dancer crossed the stage, they switched from ballet to tap, and vice-versa. Each one outdoing the last. They also split upper body ballet moves with lower body hoofing. Incredible.
It stopped the show, the night I saw it.
Music and the Mirror. Only dance number that had me holding my breath.
Conga from Wonderful Town.
The Tornado from The Wiz.
Old school, we have to go with All that Jazz.
Just seeing Hairspray on Saturday points directly to You Can't Stop The Beat. As it's been said, the energy is amazing.
