Seems like a shoo-in for The King and I to me but I guess anyone could win in theory.

I wouldn't be so sure King and I is a lock to win. There is much support for On The Town and it's definitely gaining traction. The one thing that hurts King and I is that the king got very mixed reviews. On the town got raves across the board from pretty much everyone. Many were surprised to see Ken's name called during nomination morning but many were hopinh to hear Tony Yazbeck's name.

I hope that any of the three revivals win Bilbo3, from some of my theater friends who've seen all three, they all loved them in different ways.

Sorry Sideshow got overlooked.

^ I'm sorry SIDESHOW was overlooked for a costume design nomination, that's for sure. Paul Tazewell's work there was astonishing.
We caught the closing day performance and were gald we were there. But with such a strong year for musical revivals, I wouldn't have put SIDESHOW above any of the three that did get a nomination.

I would hardly call the reviews for The King and I mixed...

Perhaps you didn't read my post correctly. I said Ken got mixed reviews. Not the show.

Bilbo was talking about Ken Watanabe's performance, not the overall production.

I honestly don't see On the Town beating King and I or OTTC. Especially with Kelli and Kristin attached to the latter.

As per Ken Watanabe's performance, it's only the diction that some of the critics noticed and criticized but other critics thought it helped him with his interpretation of The King. Some critics actually down right admired him and a good amount of people did as well, why do you think he was nominated in the end? I think the Tony nomination people recognized that Watanabe's diction is only a ripple in a teacup and that tiny issue didn't deter his overall performance in their eyes and ears.
THAT is why he's nominated now over other actors in the category.

Quite a few people have said they couldn't really understand a lot of the things he said throughout the show.
Diction and interpretation certainly can add to the realism portrayed in a character, but still, if you can't understand what they're saying, it can also draw away from the experience.
But you're right, he got nominated. So obviously there were those who didn't let that fact bother them.
For me, it would.
But for others, well if they can find away around it, explain it away, and be okay with it, that's fine too.
