Reading a Riedel column in today's paper made me remember that score doesn't have to go to an actual "musical" which opens up a new can or worms for the possibilities.
Peter and the Starcatchers, Stickfly and One Man, Two Guvs jump to mind as POSSIBILITIES.
Thoughts?

A Streetcar Named Desire has a jazz score composed by Terence Blanchard.
Def think StickFly could be nominated!
Some great work by Ms Keys
Honestly I think the Best Score noms are going to be:
Newsies
Lysistrata Jones
One Man Two Guvnors
Peter and The Starcatcher
with the possibility of Leap of Faith replacing one of the bottom 3
I loved the score from One Man, Two Guvnors. I hope it gets nominated.
Personally, I think the Bonnie and Clyde score is stronger than the eligible songs from Newsies.
@Mister Matt
Remember this isnt the oscars where the voters are given strict instructions on only watching the seen inwhich the song is played and voting based on that..as well as several other rules...
So once Newsies is nominated its "eligible" songs go out the window..the voters are going to vote based overall score
Wow. Not much in the way of new music this season. Even though Newsies has a good shot at winning Best Musical and other awards, I still think the Original Score award will go to a show that has a completely new score rather than a show with a only a few new (and admittedly weak) songs. I'd go as far to say that Ghost or Leap of Faith would win in that category over Newsies- despite the critical lashing Ghost received and Leap of Faith probably will receive. If Memphis can win Best Score, anything can.
There are plenty of new musicals this season.
Newsies
Spider-man
Bonnie & Clyde
Leap Of Faith
Ghost
Lysistrata Jones (i almost laughed writing the name of the show)
So incase BnC, Spider-man and Lysis are not good enough, you think they'll nominate Stickfly and Starcatcher?
I should rephrase that: plenty of new music, just not much of it any good. But that's just my humble opinion. When Lysistrata Jones is considered a contender for Best Score, you're in trouble.
Funnily enough, I think it just might get nominated. Spiderman too.
Streetcar also has an original jazz score-don't know if it's enough music to be eligible.
If we're talking new scores, the two best of the year were from plays, in my opinion. ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS and PETER AND THE STARCATCHER have better music than GHOST, BONNIE & CLYDE, LYSISTRATA JONES, and LEAP OF FAITH combined. NEWSIES has a good score, but every song sounds the same. If I were voting for the best new score in a musical, I'd probably vote for BONNIE & CLYDE (which isn't saying much). But if I were voting for best new score of the year, period, I'd probably vote for ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS.
Maybe this will be the first time a play wins the Best Original Score Tony.

Spider-Man will be nominated... it's U2, no?
"Rise Above 2" and "Turn Off The Dark" are always playing on my iPod.
I recently got the Newsies recording and it's so much better than I remembered. That score might win it.
Once, btw, has been on repeat since I saw it last week. That music was so fresh.
Is Ghost worth getting?
I'm rooting for One Man Two Guvnors, Newsies, Leap of Faith, and (I can't believe I'm saying this) Bonnie and Clyde to get the nods. I'd bet on Newsies to take it, but I'd root for One Man.
Finally saw ONCE, and it's a shame that the music can't be nominated since the music is so strong. The incidental music and scene change music is BRILLIANT. And the orchestrations are gorgeous.
