The most impressed I've been with a performer's vocal ability was definately when I saw Kristin Chenoweth's concert with the Boston Pops. Especially Glitter and be Gay with all those high notes...
I adore Stokes' voice. I really, really do!
But for my money, Richard Kiley's IMPOSSIBLE DREAM is the definition of perfection.
And John Raitt's SOLILOQUY (especially with the optional B) is sublime.

True, Robbie! Raitt's Soliliquy is the definitive version of that song for me.
'Course Warlow's version is pretty damn perfect, too!

Anika Noni Rose in "Caroline, or Change."
And for a male, Hugh Panaro in "Phantom of the Opera."
I first heard Idina Menzel's 'Defying Gravity' on a crappy recording before the show even came to NY, but it absolutely BLEW my mind.I was very familiar with her voice from Rent, but hearing her live was mindblowing. She pours more passion into every note she sings than almost anyone else I've heard.
Sutton Foster's "Gimme Gimme." 'Nuff said.
Julia Murney, when she sang "Nobody's Side" at Chess last year. It was the first time I had ever heard her sing.

Julia Murney- The Wild Party, I was hooked the second I put the cd in.
Raul Esparza-Anything and everything he sings.

i cant help it
George Hearn in "Sweeney Todd" (the video) and Brian Stokes Mitchell in "Kiss Me Kate" (which I saw live) are two of the greatest musical theater performances I've ever seen.
Ruthie Henshall singing "I Dreamed a Dream" in Les Mis
Krystal Washington singing "Out Tonight" YEOW!
Of course I'm gonna say Brian Stokes Mitchell singing the Impossible Dream and Make Them hear You from Ragtime. Each song gives me goosebumps and tears to my eyes. I love this man!! Also, Linda Eder, Heather Headley, Audra McDonald, Lea Salonga and Adam Pascal have the ability to touch my heart.
It might sound funny because of the show....But I still remember the first time I heard Louise Pitre sing in "Mamma Mia!". She belted out "Money Money Money" and I was HOOKED! Of course, then came her "Winner Takes It All" and I was absolutely floored by it.. Her voice is just amazing, and you can sense that in whatever song she sings.
I really, really enjoyed Donna Murphy's vocals in "Wonderful Town" when I saw her live (and on CD!), so I bought the "Passion" DVD...where she absolutely blew me away! Her vocals there are something to behold! Simply breathtaking.
And, this wasn't really on Broadway, but the single most exciting vocal performance I've EVER seen was Barbra Streisand's TIMELESS concert in LA, which I attended. PERFECTION.

Sorry, but none of you remember the days before amplification and the near operatic voices of 70 years ago. You had to sing and you had to be heard. One memory: the original THREE MUSKETEERS with Dennis KIng and Vivienne Segal. NO mikes, no amplification and their voices had to carry over a 32 piece orchestra. Could anyone do that today? I doubt it!!!! Even the voiceless Marilyn Miller could be heard. ANd I heard her!!!!!!!
Miriam
Kristin Chenoweth- Hands down.
Phillip Quast- He's my favourite Javert.
Colm Wilkonson- I simply can't not pick him.
Also, I though Vanessa Olivarez was a wonderful Tracy.

Depends on the moment ....
Vocal Performance that:
...makes you cry (Tonya Pinkins in "Lot's Wife")
...makes you leap to your feet (Sutton Foster in "Gimme Gimme")
...makes you realize men can sing too (Hugh Jackman in "Once Before I Go")
...makes you wish the song wouldn't end (Heather Headley in "Easy as Life")
...makes you wonder how they do it (Idina Menzel in "Defying Gravity")
...makes you proud of a newcomer (Eden Espinosa in "Once Upon a Time)
...makes you laugh (Kristin Chenoweth in "Popular")
...makes your heart break (Anika Noni Rose in "I Hate the Bus")
...makes you feel like you are watching history in the making (Bernadette Peters in "Rose's Turn")
Most Consistent Vocals: Male (John Barrowman ... his voice always sounds so clear and soaring) Female (Sutton Foster ... you can tell she has this down to a science)
Most Inconsistent Vocals: Male (Adam Pascal ... you never know which note he will pull out of his hate) Female (Tie between Heather Headley and Patti Lupone ... they are deliciously inconsistent because they always catch you off-guard with the notes they reach for and the voices they express)
I tend to favor inconsistency because I love to be caught off-guard.
John Barrowman
Matt Bogart (they just make me melt...not just because their gorgeous) but because they have wonderful rich voices
