I'm not sure about the best performance EVER, but Bernadette Peters' Gypsy performance was amazing.
Not far behind her would probably be WICKED's performance.

I have to say that while Bernadette was great, Jennifer Holliday was beayond spectacular. Her performance from Dreamgirls gets my vote.

Posted: 6/18/06 at 6:12pmI actually have that performance (Evita) on Broadway's Lost Treasures DVD: Volume 1. It has many other great performances from the Tony Awards too. I also love The King and I, 42nd Street, and Cabaret's performances too on the DVD.

I think WICKED's Tony perf was terrible, and I never liked Ragtime's for some reason.

Two of the best ever Tony Award performances were given by the same woman.
The one and only and still sorely missed Dorothy Loudon.
Tearing up the stage with "Broadway Baby" in the Stephen Sondheim tribute in 1984 and the obscure George Gershwin song "Vodka" the year that they re-named the Uris theater.
