DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS!!!!! I saw this a few years ago and remember thinking what a smart, funny, amazing show it was. I just saw a bootleg version of it recently and cannot believe this show did not get more awards. IMO, there isn't another show close to this in the past 5 years.

The only review of a show that matters is your own.

I also have to go with Avenue Q. It was the little low-budget underdog that went up against what will likely become the highest grossing musical of all time and WON the Tony.

It's clever, it's smart, it has a heart. It is a show that you can drag those people to who detest musicals and they will come out of that theatre smiling. My God, by the time intermission hits (if not before) you are actually FEELING for these furry felt creatures. You're relating to them. You're rooting for them. THAT is the brilliance of Broadway.

The Little Mermaid.

Okay, not really, but since my pick is PATTI LUPONE GYPSY, I figure I had to say something else other than just that. Both times I saw it (pre-Tonys and post-Tonys) I knew I was seeing something truly special. And every time I listen to the recording, I'm reminded of how amazing this is, not just as a version of Gypsy, but as great theater.
