I can't believe that was almost five years ago. It's in my top five theater experiences of all time, for sure.

Posted: 9/19/08 at 2:56pmWhile Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has been my favorite show over the last 5 years, I'd have to say the best thing that's happened to Broadway in general has been Hugh Jackman's debut here 5 years ago. I can't believe so much time has passed and there are still no plans to bring him back!
A click for life.

Answering the question a totally different way, I'll say the best thing to happen to Broadway in the past five years is the internet. I know the internet has been around for longer than 5 years, but in the past 5 years we've really seen an increase in websites, journalism, the amount of information accessible, etc.
I think [title of show] is just one example of how the internet has had a major impact on the Broadway community. I think it really has helped musicals that aren't just movie musicals or jukebox musicals, etc. It has allowed for the hype to get bigger though a larger audience. Although these shows still may not succeed in the end, it's possible they wouldn't have lasted as long 10 years ago...

The breath-taking revivals of the following brilliant musicals: Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, South Pacific, and Sunday in the Park with George.
When many new musical works have been sadly lacking at times in the last 5 years, these productions have reminded me of the magic of musical theatre.
(Also: Grey Gardens. A diamond in the rough.)
