I don't think I can narrow it down to just one thing, but certainly in the running are:
-I AM MY OWN WIFE and Jefferson Mays' performance -HENRY IV at Lincoln Center -Tonya Pinkins' performance in CAROLINE, OR CHANGE -THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA -DOUBT -SWEENEY TODD -THE HISTORY BOYS -Sarah Jones and BRIDGE & TUNNEL -Julie White's performance in THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED -GREY GARDENS -THE COAST OF UTOPIA -SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE -SOUTH PACIFIC -The performances in GYPSY -AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY
"If you are going to do something, do it well. And leave something witchy."-Charlie Manson
Patti Lupone, and ensemble in Gypsy. The BEST night of Broadway, worth the hour wait TKTS on a 95 degree day in full sunlight. Still have goosepumps thinking about it - I can't even describe the experience in words. Second - South Pacific - perfection, a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Broadway.
August: Osage County. Let's hope that it will begin a trend of bringing lots of challenging, edgy, meaty plays back to broadway. Musicals are great but I like seeing plays, too, and I want to see more like this! PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!
Emma Rowley as Baby Louise in LuPone Gypsy. and, like, all of LuPone Gypsy.
ETA: also Lin-Manuel Miranda The Drowsy Chaperone Grey Gardens John Doyle the Sunday revival August: Osage County
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

SPRING AWAKENING -- an intelligent and deeply moving musical.
The quick closing of PASSING STRANGE, an unintelligent and deeply annoying piece of drivel.
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY -- a hilarious and moving chunk of pure theatre magic, a joy to behold in every way.
The failure to transfer to Broadway of NEXT TO NORMAL, a bogus bit of nonsense that covered some of the same ground as AUGUST and failed miserably.
Mandy Patinkin's continued non-presence is also a good thing.
The spate of Sondheim revivals: good (SWEENEY TODD, ASSASSINS, COMPANY), bad (SUNDAY IN THE PARK) and indifferent (INTO THE WOODS).

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Hands down, Caroline or Change. I am STILL feeling the emotional devastation of "Lot's Wife". I have never been that moved during a musical. And I also found the sound design some of the best I have heard. The orchestra sounded wonderful live. I can remember thinking that at intermission.
Runners up: Drowsy Chaperone, DOUBT and August: Osage County
For me, it would definitely have to be the one-two punch of The Light in the Piazza and South Pacific. Two beautiful, beautiful productions that are quite near to perfection.
