For my tastes,
Jane Lynch comes across best in a "developed imrov" format. The type of comedy I feel she's most successful with has been in the Christopher Guest roles. I think her comedy is more character-driven. She's not been as funny on talk shows where a person needs to be more spontaneous.
I like
NPH as a host because (IMO) he's fast on his feet and his delivery is just "dry" enough to be non-threatening. He's got the intelligent and topical sarcasm of someone like
Ricky Gervais, but also has the countenance and stage presence of a
David Niven-type. Where Gervais often ends up crossing behavioral boundaries, NPH always seems to come off smelling like a rose.
Sean Hayes hosted the Tonys in 2010 and was OK, but (IMO) was too "clown-ish". Didn't work for me.
