Hi Kate: Yesterday matinee was the third time that I saw David Alvarez. I have also seen Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish. I suggest you to go and see your professor's son; David's acting skills are unsurpassed. While their dancing is more or less similar (altough David's level in classical ballet is the highest), his acting is what everyone in the casting and Broadway is talking about.
Just don't get fooled by this forum, which is full of Kiril's and Trent's family. Ask anyone professional on Broadway, and you'll hear the answer you'll get.
The show rocks anyways, no matter which Billy is doing it. I'm just suggesting you to go and see your professor's son; he's simply the best.

Wow, I'm really glad to hear that! I didn't put it together until someone told me that the David Alvarez in Billy Elliot was the son of the Dr. David Alvarez at my school!

kate2 - let's get one thing straight right away. I am not related to either Kiril or Trent. I have not championed one particular Billy as they are all very talented. If you read any of BETMNY's posts you will see that they have always taken David's corner. He is a wonderful performer, no one can deny that, but so are the others. I personally hate this David is better than the others. I also hate it when one of the others is picked out for "special treatment". Why can't people just go to the show and enjoy whoever comes out on the stage.
BETMNY has long lost any credibility on this board. I know that David is fabulous. I also know that Kiril and Trent are fabulous. Does anyone in their right mind (BETMNY?) think that they would have gotten those roles out of THOUSANDS of boys who auditioned, if they weren't fabulous?
So Kate - do try and see David. But don't FOR A SECOND turn down an opportunity to see Kiril or Trent. The show is fantastic and you'll have a marvelous time no matter who is playing Billy.

I definitely wouldn't turn down seeing the show because one particular boy is (or isn't) going on... I was just curious about how David does in the role.

I have seen David twice, so I would have to say that HE is AMAZING....FABULOUS... SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!!!

blanchedubious. I have to agree with you that David is amazing. Just out of curiosity - how many times have you seen Kiril and Trent?

Trent. My mom and aunt both said he was awful. Too bad. I really wanted them to like the show.

Really? That sucks! I've seen him 3 times and he's my favorite. What was off about him? I wonder if that means he's doing opening night since that would follow the rotation...
I'm curious about that too. I've heard nothing but praise from everyone for Trent's performance. It seems odd that he would suddenly be so aweful. What were the specific complaints?
They said he couldn't act and his dancing was off last night. But the rest of the audience still loved it.
My mom is 60 and my aunt is 58 and they both saw incredible shows like Camelot, Bravo Giovanni, Funny Girl, Do I Hear A Waltz?, The Happy Time, Mack & Mabel...maybe if I had seen those too, I would be disappointed by Billy Elliot. I was so sorry to hear my mom panning the show on the phone to me this morning...I wanted her to love it as much as I did.

WithoutATrace, I know it can be disappointing to love something and want others, especially people close to you, to love it too. Don't be bummed out that your mom and aunt didn't like it. The important thing is, you love it, and no one can take that away from you!
Thanks, JbaraFan. I see it again on 11/25 and 12/2...can't wait!
Actually I just read another review of Trent's performance last night and they thought he was wonderful. I guess there's just no accounting for taste!
blanchedubois, there is already a thread for the Press Night of Billy Elliot, can you post this info in that thread?

What is with all these people who joined within a month who only post about Billy Elliot?

If Alvarez is on for press night, how can they review Trent unless the critics each come twice?
To be fair, they need to come 3 times and see all the boys.

All three boys are being seen by theater critics. Tonight is the big night for the NY / Broadway press. Los Angeles Times was there this past Friday night. Some critics were there last night. In fact critics are present each weeknight of this week. Opening night will be the big night for the critics from the UK.

Any idea of how the rotation will be in the next few days?
It's been David-Kiril-Trent for the past two weeks... so if that continues it'll be David tonight and then Kiril and Trent on Saturday.
Bump!
Is there a list anywhere of the who & when? I'm going this FRIDAY NIGHT (28th) and I'm trying to figure out who I might get :)

there is still no set rotation yet, but based on who has gone on the past few days, you will prob. be seeing Trent. They may decide to break the current schedule though.
I just found this: you can get a small idea based on past performances.
