I really like the optimism of all the people who wish for 3 cast recordings !!! They still haven't managed to release ONE and you are hoping for 3 ???? What makes you think that the producers give a damn about what the fans want ? They would have already given us the Cast Recording or at least official news, if that was the case !

I saw leon in the show last night...he was so good. he really came alive when he started dancing and although he was a bit out of time at the begining of the 'Swan lake' routine he managed to get back in time and danced it wonderfully. I was so glad i catched Leon because if i didnt last night i probably never would of

Saw yesterday afternoons show and while i was hoping to see Leon for the first time it was more than enough compensation to be treated to yet another wonderful Liam performance, also the show just seems to get better and better!!
Onto the cd,while i agree 100% no mixes i would like to see which ever two don't make it each get a song on the cd as a cd extra, always nice to have a cd recording on your cv.

Great Show

I would settle for a mix of all three singing. Having seen the show again on Thurs matinee, I would like to say a big well done to all the cast. The grandma is great, the bit where Billy sings to his mum has me in tears every time, the power, anger and energy expressed by the company, Michael is brilliant, what a lovely part to play, the ballet girls have pace and attitude, the small and tall boy add some lovely lines, Debbie strops around beautifully, the lead male characters (including the stand in for Tim Healy) show how desperate the situation was with wit, humour, anger and sadness.

I heard some comments about the 'fruity' language, but I think this adds to the show and is not gratuitous. I could go on, but I won't I would love to hear some comments re the other cast members.

By the way it goes without saying that Billy (whoever plays the part) is outstanding.

I agree with you totally 'Great Show' in what you say about the language used in the musical. It is as they would have said it in the NE mining communities coming both from the adults and the children. It is however likely to shock some people. The other week I was sitting behind a couple who had brought their 2 daughters to the show. I would say that the children were around 8 and 11. The show washed over the 8 year old I felt but it was not long before the 11 year old turned to her Dad and whispered 'they are being rude'.I think her swear vocab must have increased ten fold over the evening not that her parents seemed to mind! I know of some female adults however who have been put off buying tickets because of the alleged language. Well if they would have seen young Liam last week flashing his two fingers at Mr Braithwaite and calling him a wanker in the 'born to boogie dance' they would all have had a collective moral heart attack.Good on you Liam I thought it was hysterical and recollected that James was not averse to similar sign language in this routine.
As to the cast. There is far far too little recognition given on this board to Joe Caffrey who plays Tony. He brings 200% of a passion to this role night after night which can only come from a man from the North East of England who lived through those bitter days when the mining industry in Britain was collapsing. His rage and emotion when he storms off the stage on hearing of the return to work saying in appropriate languge 'well we can't all be ****ing dancers then' is so powerfully evocative. So also is the moment when Tony gives the miners lamp to Billy to pack in his case. Billy's look of utter joy at being given this keepsake always gets me in the guts. I really hope that Joe stays after December 3rd as he is one of the major lynchpins of this show and the reasons why it is and will be an unqualified and enduring success for many years to come. I have also had the pleasure of speaking to Joe at the stage door pub afterwards and know firsthand that despite how tired he was, he was prepared to spare a few words with an ordinary punter like me. So Joe please remain!!

#1056Official Release Date
Posted: 10/7/05 at 12:22pm

I emailed Stephen Daldry's assistant or secretary at Working Title Films about when the sound track is due to be released. The reply I got was - 'Currently scheduled for November 21st'.

I am not making this up. I must say that it is annoying that we have to wait so long.

I'm new and just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone, I'm going to see the show for the first time next month and absolutly can not wait as I've followed its progress since it started. I understand that the remaining original Billys and michaels will be staying on till december, is that right? I wish the new Billy and micheal every success. I read in another post that Tim Healys character was played by a stand-in last night, is Tim not playing the role any longer? Sorry if all this has been covered elsewhere...See ya's!

Hi Jaxx
Welcome to the board and hope you enjoy the show when you get. It is not uncommon for the main characters to be understudied when they need a break. Tim is still with the cast as Liam and George are as Billys that is at least until the cast change after December 3rd. After that time contracts may or may not be renewed depending on many factors. One thing is certain that with Stephen Daldry in charge you will be guaranteed a high standard of performer and the continuance of a cracking and uplifting show.

Daniel Coll who often does the understudying for Tim on the rare occasions he is off is also wonderful in the part.

Thanks Alan, I agree with everything you said, I think it's important to mention the other cast members without whom there would not be a show. For a production to be able to paint a picture of life during that time, that is understood by the audience, well, what can I say.

Again I would love to hear peoples views on the other members of the cast.

Well, better we wait for a high quality recording, than to have them rush one out that is less than up the the excellent standards set already by the show.

What do you guys think about Tim Healy's way of portraying Jackie Elliot? Those of you who have seen his understudies at least have something to compare to...

Pegasus Tim Healey is the best!! He will be a hard act to follow especially with his gruff exterior that gradually mellows as the show progresses and he takes great pride in Billy's achievements. It is clear that he is a great support for the BIllys both on and off stage. I have seen his understudies and while they are good enough there is just that undefineable extra something that sets Tim apart.

I agree with Rodger. Joe caffrey is a fantastic actor. he gives 100% ever time. Outside the theatre he is such a happy nice bloke. You never see him any differant. Also Tim Heally is amazing! If you can steel yourself away from watching Billy, his expressions are fantastic.
I loved it when he introduced " I didnt know son" at the end of Electricity. He says it with such feeling. Other times I can laugh just looking at him. He too is a very nice bloke very down to earth, and always supportive to the young ones.

#1071Michael Jackson meets Billy
Posted: 10/8/05 at 12:45pm

The audience at todays matinee (including self) were stunned to see Michael Jackson and entourage in the front stalls. ( Michael staying at the Dorchester Hotel in London). There were more police outside than in the show, plus screams at halftime from the audience who spotted him and had to be told to return to their seats before the second half would commence. A late entrance and an early departure by Michael who seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show all led to an amazing atmosphere made all the better by a stunning performance from Leon and Joey who did not seem at all fazed at the celebrity in their midst. While these two young lads are on board the show is in very capable hands that is for sure. Wow after todays excitements roll on Posh and Becks visit.

Billy Elliot seems already the hottest Musical on this Planet now! Well done everyone who has involved in the production! And thanks for all the talented actors, especially all the young ones! Keep up all the good work, will you? As lots of fans are going to see the show again and again!
PS: I wonder what does Jacko think of the show, another Peter Pan story to him?

#1073Understudys
Posted: 10/8/05 at 2:14pm

Of the understudys I have seen, Daniel Coll impresses me the most. The show could do far worse if Tim leaves than put it in Daniels capable hands. He also has chameleon like qualities on stage portraying the different parts during the show. Gillian has a great voice, is a good actor but for me doesn't quite "fill" the stage like Haydn does. I don't think it is that she isn't very good at the part, she is but Haydn is quite simply amazing.

I also agree with the comment about Alex, it doesn't quite work. The matinee show the day James left. George was playing Billy and both Gillian and Alex were understudying. "Born to Boogie" just didn't seem to work that day.

As for people leaving, it will be a real shame if Steve Elias leaves as filling his shoes will not be an easy task either.

All great things must come to pass. We know the first will soon be last and in the ground we may be lain , but a seed is sown to rise again.
