What is this song? It comes on a few seconds after You Can't Stop The Beat ends. It is a little bit distubring. Was it like...a cut song from the show? Is it just there for fun? Anyone know?
It was in the show at the beginning of the run but was cut.

Yes, it was a PSA right after Welcome to the 60s, I believe.
Well, it was after it or before it, one or the other.
It was a public service announcement that Link and Amber did.

It is basically my favorite part of the Hairspray CD.
It was a Public Service Announcement that Link, Amber and Velma did. It was done in the 1st Corny Collins Show scene.
This was originally performed during the show's out-of-town tryouts in Seattle but taken out by the time the show arrived on Broadway.
The Original Cast Recording was recorded BEFORE the Broadway opening, hence it's 'bonus' inclusion and some different lyrics in the "Miss Baltimore Crabs" number.
oh parks, you've been around long enough to know this has been asked repeatedly :-P

I'm still pissed the Baltimore Crabs reprise isn't on the cd

I agree. I love the reprise. I'm also disappointed that they changed the lyrics. I prefer the original lyrics over the new ones.
i love "Miss Baltimore Crabs." i was surprised when i saw the show with the changes (had the cd first). i think the lyrics were cut for a good reason... not all of them were needed. however, i felt kind of unsettled with it in the show because it doesn't seem to run as smoothly as the original... it feels choppy and you realize something is missing if you know the original. but i think i've adjusted quite well after seeing it so much. but i agree, "Velma's Revenge" (i believe thats what its called) should have been on the recording!

What do they say in Blood on the Pavement?
Lets hope Velma's revenge is in the Movie soundtrack.
Its seems to me there are no London Cast Recordings anymore... I say that, because I was going to say- well when Hairspray DOES finally go to the west-end may be they will release a new Album... but is the practice of LCR's dead?
gavro:
ALL: Blood on the pavement, what a mess!
AMBER: Is that your eyeball on my dress?
ALL: Don't drink and drive please keep your head
LINK AND AMBER: Or come graduation day, you'll be dead!
LINK: Hands on the wheel, though I know it's a drag. I'd hate to see that body in a body bag.
VELMA: Kids, listen up, cause I'm her mom
ALL: Yes, blood on the pavement will ruin your prom!
*cat scream*
gavrochegirl, the song is sung by Laura Bell Bundy (Amber), Matt Morrison (Link), and Linda Hart (Velma):
All: Blood on the pavement, what a mess
Amber: Is that your eyeball on my dress?
All: Don't drink and drive, please keep your head
All: Or come graduation day, you'll be dead
Link: Hands on the wheel, though I know it's a drag
Link: I'd hate to see that body in a body bag
Velma: Kids listen up, cuz I'm her mom
All: Yes, blood on the pavement will ruin your prom
That's it...it's kinda funny I think, but I can't really see how it would fit into the show.
The change that on the CD in without love Tracy say's "without love is like makin' out with Parry Como" and the two time's that I've seen the show Tracy has said "makin out to Perry Como" which to me isn't as funny.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuBroadway Legend Joined: 4/16/05
Yikes. That doesn't sound too pleasant to me...

yeah, the Christine (the Tracy on tour last night) said making out to Perry Como.
...that was random. lol
does anyone know offhand the lyric change in baltimore crabs from the cd to now?
They all say "making out to Perry Como"...I was told that Marissa flubbed the line in the OCR. I don't know whether that's true or they just decided to change the line, but every Tracy I've seen says, "making out to Perry Como"
changes come at the 3rd verse:
VELMA
cause i hit the stage
batons ablaze
while singing aida
and preparing cheese souffles!
but a triple somersault
was how i clinched "mis baltimore crabs"!
fire away girls!
TAMMY
you're too wide from the back
AMBER
honey, look at her front!
VELMA
wait, are we on "candid camera"?
ok, where is allen funt?
AMBER
do you dance like you dress?
LINK
girls, there's no need to be cruel!
VELMA
would you swim in an integrated pool?
then there's some dialogue and the part with inez that is on the OCR. however, they dont repeat "CRABS!" several times. they do it once and Velma holds the note out... then it goes into Tracy and Inez singing "i know every step, i know every song..."
props to the roots book for that
thanks zepka! I need to get the book!
the book rocks
I read the book daily sadly...
