When I saw the headline, I thought for sure he'd be Rooster, but..."He will play a bulldog political advisor to Foxx’s character as he makes a mayoral run in New York."
Huh?

Come on, you're gonna put Bobby Cannavale in your Annie movie and not have him play Rooster?
Come on.

Posted: 8/19/13 at 7:57pmIt doesn't even seem like Annie any longer... They should just re-name the film at this point.

Posted: 8/19/13 at 9:22pmOk, I have truly lost any interest in seeing this. It does appear that they are totally rewriting the story. It's not going to be what we all know as "Annie".

I immediately thought of rooster as well .
Hopefully NYC & The Hoover # will be restored.

Posted: 8/19/13 at 11:00pmI thought Rooster, too. But, alas, this film continues to disappoint one after the other. I guarentee they will keep maybe 1 or 2 songs from the show, and still call it "Annie". Whether or not it will have the same plot? I'm going with definitely not. CUT the Annie songs and rename the main character and call it "The Orphan Musical" it's just not Annie.

This film will not have some amazing supernatural power to remove the previous two ANNIE films from the planet. They will both still exist. This one you don't need to see if you don't wish to. And on that note...you haven't seen it yet.
However, if you should hate it...well as I say it does not remove the other two movies from history. Watch them.

I'm curious. Do the people who are extremely upset about the changes also think Fosse's CABARET shouldn't be called CABARET? Or are we denouncing these changes just because it involves black artists?

I could care less if the cast was white, black, purple or blue [nice try though pulling the race card]. I just think if a show is doing an adaptation of a musical try and keep the plot and songs intact.
With that said, interesting point about 'Cabaret'. I guess it's just different since Annie was the reason I even got into musicals as a child. Just shares a special place in my heart.

Do we even know yet if this is using the Annie score?
Believe it or not, Annie was a property before the musical.

Posted: 8/20/13 at 1:13pmI'm surprised people thought he would be Rooster- though obviously this may be nothing like the musical, I thought Cannavale didn't really sing. If that's the case, and Easy Street remains in the film, I'm glad he isn't playing the part. He's right for it type-wise, but I don't really want to see someone barely making it through one of the best songs in the score.
