Woah! Heard he was joining the show but thought it was for McKinley, if O'Malley had to leave for 1600 Penn or something.
figured this would be announced some time this week. Interesting to see that the Cunningham standby is the typical "fat-white guy", but they've changed it for the lead. Platt is stocky/burly, but no way "fat". congrats to the cast. I would imagine the Broadway cast will see a big change come Feb./March as most of the originals will be going on 2 years with the show.
edited to add: in the Time Out article, it says the Chicago run is expected to extend again. Maybe through Labor Day before moving on??

I saw that Syesha Mercado just tweeted that she is on bed rest with a sprained ankle. I haven't heard of any understudies going on in Chicago yet...has anyone seen one of the Nabalungi understudies?
Here's the tweet.

I don't think she's been out yet. (Interestingly enough, Talitha Farrow is on as Nabulungi on tour today!)

Looks like Camille made her debut as Nabalungi today in Chicago.

Mercado said that she will be out of the show for 3 weeks.
If people are expecting me to continue this pattern of supplying a link to a tweet after BigRed posts something that references said tweet, I refuse.
it seems like the Chicago run will end on Sept. 8. Dates are now popping up for the tour(s) in the fall, and several spots overlap each other. The first being Austin, TX(Oct. 1-13) & Omaha, NE(Oct. 12-20). Also the second Denver stop(end of Oct) overlaps with Louisville, KY & Tampa, FL(Oct. 29-Nov. 24).
Melanie Brezill has been added to the Chicago cast as an addition Nabalungi u/s. she covered the role while on Broadway as well during her time as a vacation swing. I wonder if Mercado will be out longer than expected.

I believe that Melanie is still just a vacation swing and maybe covers for all 3 companies. Since Mercado is out for 3 weeks it would make sense it would make sense that they brought her in to have 2 swings.
Jeff Heimbrock is also with the Chicago company right now...he's listed as a swing with the Broadway company, but I'm guessing he's also a vacation swing?
