A female friend of mine is out of ideas and is pressed for time. So I decided to ask the best. She needs a flirty-kind-of ballad, that's not belty and is from an old musical. And a matching monologue.
Any ideas would be a lot of help!! Thanks everyone!!!

if she's after Fiona, "Many a New Day" from OKLAHOMA is very similar to Fiona's "Waiting for My Dearie". as is "What's the Use of Wonderin" from CAROUSEL. They are both "flirt-able".
"Behave" (though a little slow) might be good if she's after Meg in BRIGADOON. A friend of mine got cast as Meg by singing "Cain't Say No" in a Scottish accent, if your friend has that ability. i thought it was a novel approach.
i'm clueless about the monologue choice. Most musicals only have cold readings after you sing anyway, don't they?
YEs - doing a monologue for a musical audition seems kind of pointless. I've never had to do that.
Try "Outside of that I love you" from the Lousiana Purchase- it's berlin. It's a really cute and funny ballad and it will NEVER be done... If she's a soprano that is, I think it goes to an F...
The second to last and last phrases- "I hate the way you sigh, honest I do/ Outside of that I love you"
If she can hit the note, I think it will be impressive to pop up the A the octave on "DO" and then the last phrase up the octave, also.
I did that for an audition once and it went really well. Even without the octave jump, it's a good choice.
as for the monologue part.... ?!?!?!?!?!
I totally disagree about 'What's the Use of Wonderin' being at all "flirtable" Not to be mean, but have you read the lyrics?
I have to admit, I don't know Brigadoon(I actually just literally received the CD in the mail today, and have not had a chance to listen to it)
I know women who have done the show, and I know for a fact that one of them did 'I'll Know' from Guys & Dolls, another 'Namely You' from Li'l Abner as a solo and another 'Dear Friend' from She Loves Me. All of these girls were cast. (the first two in one production, the last one was a totally different production)
I have another friend who auditioned with 'Unusual Way' from Nine and was cast as Julie in Carousel by the same casting director.
How about something from Finian's Rainbow or Camelot?
"Where or When" is kinda cute - it's from Babes in Arms. What role is she going for? It makes all the difference.
