Discuss. Eager to find out more info about this show, and its life after such a short run. Go!

Bring Back Birdie

I've recently learned that gay porn director Wakefield Poole made his return to Broadway with BRING BACK BIRIDE.

Oh, and that it was a terrible show too.

Bring Back Birdie

Hey, at least she shows up. At least, according to Gerard Alessandrini.

#6

Bring Back Birdie

It was dreadful. But Chita was a gamer, though.

Bring Back Birdie

It was the single most depressing experience I have ever had watching a musical. It was the nadir of the American Musical Theater. I honestly thought, "This is it. There will never be a musical again."

Bring Back Birdie

I don't know anything about this show except for the score, which actually has some really good songs.

But you can tell just listening to the album that the show was just awful.

What is there to discuss? It was pretty gawd-awful. I've never seen it done or HEARD about it being done. (Although I'm sure some have attempted it.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Robin Morse as the teen daughter - spitting image of her dad Robert - down to the gap in her teeth.

Although it wasn't the worst show I've ever seen, it came close.

Bring Back Birdie

I was taking a course in musical theater from Lee Adams during the previews and opening. Rarely have I ever seen a human being in such obvious pain, even though he almost never talked about the show in class.

Adams was such a kind soul that I couldn't bear to see the production that was causing such misery. Thus far, nobody has suggested I missed anything.

Bring Back Birdie

Please no. Conrad Birdie needs to stay far, far, far away.
#14

Bring Back Birdie

Lee Adams is a very nice man, and a very intelligent craftsmen. What led him to agree to write BRING BACK BIRDIE the world will never know.

Mae Zepol? Mae was really Spanish? Were they kidding?

I'd be amazed if this isn't one of the first shows that City Center tackles as part of their new Encores sumer series...
#17

Bring Back Birdie

The new Encores summer series that was started 5 years ago, ran for 3 summers presenting mainstream shows (Gypsy, Damn Yankees, The Wiz), and then fell apart? That new Encores summer series?

Is Strouse's score any good? Adams has never been much of a lyricist.

Bring Back Birdie

I like Adams' work, particularly on GOLDEN BOY.

Bring Back Birdie

Birdie is truly one of the worst musicals. Ever.

Bring Back Birdie

Bring Back... or Bye, Bye... ? I've always found Bye, Bye rather charming and funny. Bring Back though, no way.

#21

Bring Back Birdie

Bring Back Birdie, but I don't care for Bye, Bye Birdie too much either though.

Bring Back Birdie

BYE, BYE BIRDIE is very entertaining. The movie's pretty awful, though. Speed saves the day? Come on! What kind of message is that teaching our youth?

#23

Bring Back Birdie

Ohh the movie with Ann-Margret where Albert is a research chemist?!
