Posted: 11/29/05 at 10:22pmMmmm. I, too, am rather relieved that Ms. Spears isn't going to be gracing the Great White Way eight nights a week... however, I'm also a bit sad because this DEFINATELY means the death of the show. Ah well. Au revior, Charity.

Well, I guess it's clear that she outsmarts the Weisslers. Smart enough not to take a job they thought she should have, and smart enough to spend tens of thousands of their dollars in the process.
I'd say she's a little bit of a Broadway hero. :)

Posted: 11/29/05 at 11:13pmI have mixed emotions. A sigh of relief is first. However, I was thinking that if Britney came to Broadway she would bring her fans into seeing more shows. But oh well. Thank goodness!!

Posted: 11/29/05 at 11:17pmWould she really have brought crowds into the Hilton Theatre? Is she still a big draw, or a has been?

Posted: 11/29/05 at 11:37pmWhy don't they just call Brooke Shields or Cheno? I'm shocked Kathie Lee hasn't been sending F&B Gift Baskets with love notes of her infinate availability!

Posted: 11/29/05 at 11:38pmSteve...as sad as it is, Britney would DEFINITELY draw crowds.

Posted: 11/30/05 at 12:55amI am actually not sure she would be able to draw decent crowds. I mean, yes her concerts draw, but that is a very different audience. Although "Crossroads" opened at number 2, it made less than $38 million overall at the box office which isn't all that great. Sure, she drew a crowd at first but it didn't hold up. And film is a much more accessible media than theater, it pains me to say. Especially with ticket prices what they are. If they didn't want to pay 7 bucks to see her, they sure as hell won't pay 100.

Ah to Britney. Its a big committment to be on Broadway. She just had a baby and her marriage is too fragile. So, it was not the time for her. They should look at Jessica, Nicole Richie or some of those other blonde beauties.

Posted: 11/30/05 at 2:09amAwww, I was looking forward to what the critic's would have said. Seriously, and not that I care, but she would have sold out the ford theater every night. These days image takes precedence over talent. Face it. It's the truth.

Charity is at the Al Hirschfeld. Chitty is at the Hilton.

Posted: 11/30/05 at 12:09pm^ BUT if Britney took the role, they were going to move to the Hilton.

No offence ... what a bitch ... they spend that money ... and her issue for not doing it is an issue she would KNOW from the get go.
Dude .... i dotn feel too bad for the producers, i mean they knew from the get go that Britney was a flake, they should have gone after someone a BIT more stable like Paris hilton

Ew, they were going to move it for her sake? That makes me even more glad that she isn't doing it.
But I have to agree with kasim. After my first feeling of relief, I couldn't help but think it was really bitchy of her to do that to the producers.

I'm glad to hear that... Didn't want her to become Charity anyway..
#48re: Britney isn't so
Posted: 11/30/05 at 1:26pmI think that after she realized that she would actually have to sing 8 times a week, she realized that she couldn't do it. If she can't get through a 2 hour concert without recorded tracks, I don't think she can handle 8 shows a week. Thank God in Heaven she is not doing the show. I would rather see the show close on a high note than to have her go in and destroy it. Sure, she can dance and carry a tune, but I am not crazy about her acting skills. JMO

Do you people really believe Britney let them spend all that money with no intention of ever taking the job? Why would she waste her OWN time in that case? I mean really - do you think she couldn't afford to stay in nice hotels on her own? I know it's trendy around here to hate her, because you're all so much better than she is, but don't presume to know her intentions.
The Weisslers chose to spend that money, with NO guarantee. Believe me, they have it. And they've screwed enough people over in their lifetime that this is a small price for them to pay.
