Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/21
#25Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/21
Posted: 11/22/10 at 5:43pmSorry guys, but I don't think you're understanding the numbers. If you look at the chart, the percentage of gross refers to dollars and not seating capacity. For example, MOV has a gross potential of $763,000. Because of the sale of premium tickets, total revenues exceeded that ($790 something thousand). Thus, it did 103% of gross capacity. The 103% does not represent butts in seats, it represents dollars over the gross capacity of the house if every seat sold at face value.

I'm pretty sure we all understand everything. You answered a question that wasn't asked.
Additionally, Merchant had a seating capacity of 102.4% last week, which prompted the original question. Standing Room ticket sales are the cause of total seating capacity exceeding 100%.

Posted: 11/22/10 at 5:47pmWe're referring to the percentages in the column "This Week", which is independent (at least in the calculational sense) from the box office takings.

Really, most of the people here DO know of whence they speak. If YOU looke at the chart you will see TWO numbers in excess of 100%. One is of the Gross Potential and the other is SEATS sold. The question IN question was about the seating.
(Additionally, the SR seats ALSO increase the amt of the gross potential as THAT figure is based on selling 100% of seats at full price, but it would also include Premium Pricing [most likely])
