Granted, the capacity isn't high, but a half million a week gross is still probably a healthy 150-200k profit.
The question is whether the show can maintain the high average ticket price that is has while attempting to fill more seats. The show will probably be re-reviewed soon and I'm betting the advance will hinge on those reviews.

Posted: 12/2/09 at 9:58amThat's more what i was commenting on, frogs. Half a million for a play is still fantastic. But it jumped from 100% capacity to 60% capacity overnight practically, just from the new cast. If the reviews of the new cast aren't favorable, I don't know how much longer those ticket prices will remain in place.

Posted: 12/2/09 at 10:19amI wonder if the producers will invite the critics back to review the new cast. 'Cause GOC wasn't breaking box office records off the bat; the great reviews definitely helped (although the cast was obviously the big selling point.)

for god sakes, just write out GOD OF CARNAGE. That's probably one of the easier ones.
If I can't get "GOC" in five seconds, it's probably better off just to write... "God" or "Carnage" - anything other than three damn letters.

Reviews don't seem to count for much any more.
BYE BYE BIRDIE gets predominantly negative reviews and has been selling close to capacity. FINIAN'S RAINBOW and RAGTIME got terrific notices and are struggling to build their audiences.
Even so, as mentioned GOD OF CARNAGE is still making a healthy gross and the cast were promoting it on the CBS telecast of the parade.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
