"Most" shows were NOT up. Only 10 out of more than 30 shows were up.
Let me say this again more slowly for those that weren't paying attention. Most shows did SEVEN performances (7) this past week compared to EIGHT (
the prior week, which explains why they appeared to be "down" when they might not have been down at all. Capiche?"
Thank you, but I'm not a moron. I can read. I know not all shows did a full week. My comment just stated that most shows were down, when another poster stated that they were up... not sure why you felt the need to condescend.

I understand that it's 7 shows instead of 8 like last week, but Les Liaisons Dangereuses numbers are so low... the only show that has lower percentage of capacity is On Your Feet.

Being signed to a principal contract does not necessarily mean they are making more than minimum.

As I admitted earlier, I got carried away with a post that was not really justified by the numbers. It happens.
No need to nitpick interpretations - unless you're the type to not let a nit go unpicked.
In any case...
- Hamilton's performance continues to amaze
- A Bronx Tale looks to be a sleeper success not reflected in buzz here.

I'm also confused why people are saying that less shows account for the drop when the number we're looking at is the percentage of seats sold (out of total available) not the total number of seats sold. Am I missing something?
Edit: ye I just checked and some of the ones that are up, sold less seats than last week but show an improvement because it was out of less seats available (with fewer shows). So that seems irrelevant to me then?

numbers can go up with fewer performances for the same reason they can go up with the normal number. Demand rises for some shows in a given week for various reasons. In this frame, most of the shows with absolute increases are shows that are viable options for out of school kids and their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

"Anyone have an estimate as to In Transit's weekly nut? I can't imagine the running cost is that high. I haven't seen the show, but I've seen the clips. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the production seems fairly simple and low-cost, plus it's a small-ish cast with no big stars, and there isn't an orchestra."
In Transit may have no orchestra, but unless the musicians' union has rolled over and presented its butt to the newbie producers (unlikely), they still have to pay a weekly salary for the minimum number of musicians for the Circle in the Square (whatever that number is).

And while the same thing crossed my mind, I would wonder, here, if an agreement took place.
Wasn't that agreement put into place to avoid producers simply playing pre-recorded tracks? Since this isn't in that construct, it might not have been difficult to get them to grant a waiver.
Just a thought, I have absolutely no information.

My only guess is that maybe the producers of in transit think that they will get some increased numbers from all the shows closing. There are 13 shows closing from now until the end of January and only 2 new ones opening so I think that will be only 20 shows open by the end of January. Now I don't believe that will actually make any difference for this show even though I haven't seen it yet (I'm seeing it tonight) but maybe that's what the producers are thinking?

Or maybe in transit is playing as a play

Just out of curiosity, who would they pay it to?

"Just out of curiosity, who would they pay it to?"
Each Broadway house at one time had its "house" musicians - for instance, Bernstein didn't want the house musicians at the Winter Garden for West Side Story, because he thought they weren't up to playing the score. I think Suskin's book on orchestrations talks about that in more detail.
But I believe that changed long ago, and now the music contractor would somehow choose musicians who would receive the salary (for not playing).

even if the minimum was not waived, it is not a make or break number: Circle's minimum is 3.Of course, at its grosses, every penny of expense is breaking something. There is no rational explanation for why In Transit has not announced it is closing: it is yet another show in which inexperienced producers keep a show open beyond its sell-by date, lose more money and get laughed at by everyone else.

Happy to see that Fiddler had a strong turnout. It deserves to go on a high. I hope this was just a bad week for Bronx Tale and not the sign of a decline. I want to catch it with my stepmother when the weather starts to get warm.
Hamilton's attendance is down by less than 1%...IT MUST BE CLOSING! Hahaha.

newintown, thanks for your succinct answer, and for mentioning the Suskin book - I just bought a copy on Amazon!

It's a terrific book, I think, kdogg, but there are some who report that there are some factual errors. Still, the read is fun.

Oy, In Transit's numbers are dismal. I hope they decide to at least try to preserve In Transit with a cast recording.
