I don't think the price point if $15, but it is an interesting question. I'm sure some would be concerned that there would be an upward migration which would be self defeating. I would assume they are trawling the group market for possible arrangements but it is also worth remembering that selling a hundred tickets at $15 produces a lot more work than selling 10 at $150. And there is a very linear expense in opening the balcony.

Not sure about your linear expense comment, but will point out that the balconies are open.
I think there is an intangible benefit if the theatre is noticably more crowded. 45 years ago, the show Purlie opened at the Broadway and charged $3 for every rear mezz seat, I think partially based on the expectation of being a hard sell and wanting to attract a new audience. I saw the show three or four times from the rear mezz, which is huge; every time, it was jammed, even when there were a good number of orchestra seats available.
Did their availability keep people from buying orchestra seats? Personally, I believe not...I think most of the folks would probably have stayed home.

"Really interested to see what happens to finding never land once matthew Morrison leaves. Part of me feels like the grosses will drop by 1/3. "
I don't know if it will be that big a difference. I saw it on 12/19 (enjoyed it) and I expected Mr. Morrison would get a ovation on his stage entrance which he did not get. My daughters saw it this spring and they said crowd erupted during his stage entrance. Maybe the two things don't coincide but it did make me wonder if his being in the show at this point makes that big a difference in attendance. Guess we will see soon.

"Too bad for China Doll and Misery"
"China Doll" is lucky anybody is buying a seat with all the negative reviews of the show and how pathetic Mr. Pacino is in the show.

When Mr Morrison[the clip I saw of him performing reminded me of one of those Solid Gold dancers] goes-he is sure to be replaced by someone as equally well know to TV land so those TV screamers will come and scream and hang around the stage door--so all will be well.
I have spuck.

I wonder how close Hamilton is to recouping? I assume it'll be by March if not earlier.

I thought it wasn't. Maybe I misread.
re 45 years ago etc.- It's worth keeping in mind that the nature of discounting, the advent of dynamic pricing and the effects of social media etc have changed the landscape tremendously. I'm not convinced there would not be a strategy along the lines you suggest, but there does seem to be a fear of it from the powers that be. (The Rylance plays at the Belasco sold the balcony for $25, and they of course did very well, but I think that had more to do with a philosophy than a pricing strategy.

Why would the lottery add to capacity? The front row seats are already in the theater. It's included in capacity.

Wait does the lottery go into the grosses?

of course the lottery goes into the grosses. Why wouldn't it? It's revenue that spends just as easily as premium ticket revenue...

I don't know where else the accountants would put lottery income if not in the box office gross. After all its revenue generated in the expectation of buying a ticket for a show.

Only asking cause I've been meaning to see it but I like to avoid going to shows during this time of year.

They're selling tickets for a few months and I'd like to go when it's warmer but the grosses have me worried about their longevity. What would happen if say I bought a ticket for March and the show closed in February?

You would get a refund. If you really want to see the show, go soon.

not sure if people noticed this, but about half the shows did only 7 performances Christmas week & are doing 9 performances this week. We should see some big numbers for this week's grosses.
