YES..if you look at the group, the top 3 losses were for Neverland, Matilda and School of Rock (which are somewhat associated as "kid shows" ) because last week was a school holiday for lots of schools. It was a bad week period....

"Any guesses? I think Disaster should close ASAP. I can't believe it is booking into late June/early July
"Fun Home"'s steady decline is surprising and worrisome.

I don't think Matilda is planning on going anywhere soon. They held auditions for new Matildas back in January and the current Matildas leave in April.

I guess I am one of only a few who think that it would be a good thing if some of these old shows closed down. A couple of years is more than enough for just about any show. And for most, one year should mean its time to close and go on the road.
Any number of shows that had less than 50% gross this week could close without anyone thinking it a tragedy -- American in Paris, Chicago, Neverland, Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Matilda, Rotten, Dog, and yes, Phantom, could all say Adieu and Bientot.
Winter is a good time to cull the herd and make room for the next generation.
I'm sure the producers for those shows are wise in terms of how they save and spend money, they are long running shoes so they must know what they are doing. I'm sure they have extra cash from the holidays and Summer's to spend on the slow weeks in the winter.
I know that there is more to a week's gross than the weekend, but damn the city was packed last weekend! I purposely went to see shows last weekend because I thought it would be less crowded, and there were people everywhere! They needed to get their butts in theater seats!

I don't think it's all that surprising, considering how dreadful it is. The only thing surprising is that the hype-machine's raves and awards crumbled before the truth as soon as they did. Usually they're able to lure in hapless patrons for a longer period of time.
And I don't find that worrisome. I find it heartening.

Bfreak,
I'm just a happy-go-lucky person. That's my nature.

Most also have a Sunday matinee also.
