I also just heard from the principal at my daughter's school, a competitive performing arts high school, that the 68 theater kids who saw BMC on a field trip and all their adult chaperones LOVED it. Too bad it didn't please your nieces and nephews. Some of us are having a ton of fun!

Okay, I'm not necessarily saying the chaperones lied...but it's possible. Some people literally do lie and say they liked the show, just so they don't get their heads bitten off by the show's rabid and insane fandom.

No I'm defending a show that BWW has deemed improper to like. Not everything can and should be Angels in America. There's always been a number of B'way musicals that appeal to a younger fanbase. Wicked, the Disney musicals. There's nothing wrong with a bunch of teens who are enthusiastic about theater but haven't learned yet that the theater is a place for Serious and Profound Art. The determination to treat the BMC fans like subhuman tweenbots is gross.

Hmmm. So what should we do about that? Tell them that the way they behave is inappropriate and, to use your word, gross? Or just let them be, and give them a pass because they're teens?

Uh, you must never work with teens. I do on a daily basis. They're teens. They're exploring boundaries and will as teens not really know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate. So it's the adults' job to tell them that this behavior is not appropriate, but not in a demeaning "you're awful/bad/kill yourself" way.
MY QUESTION IS, you seem to be confusing two things: the show and the fanbase. One has nothing to do with the other. I can love Beyonce's music and not approve of some of the more hysterical members of the "beyhive." One can enjoy or not enjoy BMC without connecting it to a small group of fans who said inappropriate things.
I mean, would you, say, decide that an entire sports team is complete trash just because you went to a game and some fans got drunk and obnoxious?

I'm in my mid-50s, and while I've yet to see Be More Chill, I do have a ticket for June. I'm sorry to inform you that you're not the arbiter of taste and quality that you seem to believe you are.

I thought Be More Chill was a bit of a mess, but the hatred for it here strikes me as unhinged.
I'd also point out that shaming the teens who love it is foolish; its their access point to theater, and as they get older and mature, so will their tastes. I loved RENT and AIDA passionately in a way that makes me cringe now. But I ended up growing to love a whole lot more as the years progressed. Not sure I would have if there were people screaming at me on a message board about how horrible my choices were. Get a grip.
