Posted: 5/23/11 at 4:31pmMormon is the biggest hit Broadway has seen in years. Even premium priced tickets (over face value) are flying off the market.

Posted: 5/23/11 at 4:39pmBook of Mormon's average ticket price is through the roof, wow... and Patti Lupone FANatic that is why their gross potential percent is so high with the premium tickets.
#11Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/22
Posted: 5/23/11 at 4:47pmBook of Mormon's grosses are over 100% of potential because a lot of tickets are being sold at the premium price.

How is Baby, It's You! getting more business each week?? Their grosses continue to climb. And if Anything Goes doesn't have SRO, how can their capacity be over 100%?? And it looks like Sister Act has opened up those 262 seats in the rear mezz, hence such a large increase in their grosses(+100K).
Anyway, it looks the summer crowds are starting to arrive. The city seemed packed last week and these numbers show it.

Even though "Sister Act" dropped in attendance it's nice to see its gross go up. I also am glad that "Catch Me if You Can" is holding well. Also nice grosses for "Mary Poppins" and "Mamma Mia."

Posted: 5/23/11 at 6:08pmSister Act's attendance actually went up, look at their grosses from past weeks(11,655 to 12,011). They had closed off the extreme rear mezz(262 seats to be exact), and last week those seats were opened up, thus increasing their total seats from 11,896 to 13,992

Posted: 5/23/11 at 10:20pmagain, people will pay those prices considering how in demand tickets are. Book of Mormon will likely be the hot ticket for a solid year, if not longer. expect those premium prices to remain what they are. I'm just glad I saw the show when they still had discounts out($65 orch.)

Posted: 5/23/11 at 10:25pmDid anyone address RC's question yet? They sell the tickets "above" the ticket price.

I did, singtopher.
A further explanation: A show's Potential Gross is if every seat is sold at regular price. If people are buying discounted tickets, the gross will be below potential even if the show sells out. If people are buying premium tickets, the gross can go above the potential.

Posted: 5/23/11 at 10:52pmTo add to Theatreguy's correct explanation, a show also can go over max. capacity and max. gross potential by selling standing room seats, which The Book of Mormon does. Standing room seats are not factored into a theatre's total capacity nor into it's total gross. This also pushes up both numbers.

Posted: 5/23/11 at 11:20pmyet Anything Goes' capacity was over 100%(again) yet they don't have SRO.
