Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/17/16

Go, Waitress... go!
I'm still confused (and bummed out) that Matilda is closing while Kinky Boots is still open... I know that Matilda does much better business in summer and holidays, but the two are quite comparable in the off-season. Is Matilda that much more expensive to run?

Wow, almost every show is up from last week!

People were saying matildas operating costs are near 800,000 dollars a week while kinky boots is probably 200,000 dollars less. I could still see kinky boots closing up shop soon though maybe at the same time as Matilda even.
Great week for everyone! Would the cast change explain the Hamilton decrease in number of seats sold?

I believe it's twice as expensive to run..
Do we still need to pit KB vs Matilda? Enough already...they've both had lovely runs.

Better week this past week than the week before for Broadway!
I'm still not sure why $475 is listed as the top ticket sold for Hamilton when we ourselves saw $549 (non-resale) tickets being sold on Ticketmaster online this past week.

Maybe? Maybe not? They announced Daveed Diggs departure last Wednesday so I'm 99% sure it was a full house + standing room on Wednesday mat/eve, Thu eve, Fri eve. Not sure about Monday eve, Tuesday eve, Sat mat/eve but given how there is still a cancellation line, I can almost swear it's always a full house there.

Wow - 4 performances of Cats did better than 8 other shows that performed 8 times last week...
That's pretty impressive and kind of contradicts those who were "reporting" that Cats had no buzz about it and no advance

Good for Cats! Matilda made me chuckle a bit.

I was at Kinky Boots just the other day and the theatre was pretty full.

A few of the posters above brought up a good point. What are the weekly operating costs of each show? Is there a website someplace that lists it?

As I've learned, a full theatre doesn't mean a big gross. Yes it's nice for the cast to have a near full house to perform to, but I'm sure a lot of tickets were at discounted prices

Can Paris make it to 2017 with these grosses??
Nope. They will post a revised closing notice soon, according to a production source.

Is this legit? For when?

Better? It didn't deserve to run a week. It's damned lucky to have run this long.

I don't think it's necessarily intentional... the two opened opposite each other amid huge critical acclaim and the tug-of-war for Tony success that resulted (and, to be honest, was accelerated by all of us) will result in the two of them being associated with each other for a long, long time. Yes, I agree that we can view them both as successful productions... but if you're a big fan of one over the other, there is nothing wrong with proclaiming your love for that production and desire for it to succeed. I certainly don't disparage those who feel that KB is the better musical... same way as I don't harbor ill will towards those that view Lion King as a better musical than Ragtime... (that one is a tougher pill to swallow...)

Zell,
Says me.... and the public, who caught on pretty quickly, considering all the hype accorded it.

How would that make sense? the tickets sold 9 months ago.

No definite date yet, but the producers have refused to carry this show for 6 months of they are thus far under the nut every week.

Yay for the jump for On Your Feet!

Isn't JERSEY BOYS due to pack it in? There must be more than a few shows who could use that real estate.

I hope the next tenant will be a play

Motown's numbers make you wonder if it will even last the 20 weeks considering critics are going to once again rip the production to shreds.
