On Your Feet! is really, really slipping.

And things aren't looking too hot for Rotten! either, very sadly.

Something Rotten has been low but steady and they seem to be holding on for now with the new cast. On Your Feet on the other hand seems to be going down substantially often.

I think Alan Mingo, Jr. will be the last Lola.

Matilda is happily doing excellent, but that's probably thanks to the inevitable closing of an otherwise excellent broadway run.

Went to see On Your Feet! Friday night and there were a ton of empty seats.

I won the lottery, along with at least 50 others.

Can't see it lasting much longer.

Looking at the numbers each week for An Act of God, I truly wonder if the Booth would have been better off staying vacant until Liaisons.

Why would any theater be better off vacant? They're collecting rent.

I know this was talked about a little in another grosses thread, but I'm really interested in how wicked is making more than it's potential gross without SRO.

Also, I agree we might be seeing a closing notice for kinky soon. It's been pretty steady, but I don't know how it could last much longer making 50-60% of its potential gross even in the summer. It also sucks to see it having such low capacity numbers too.

SRO would be counted in attendance not gross. Wicked's attendance is 97%.Above potential gross would be premium pricing, I believe.

I didn't mean it's not counted in the gross at all. I meant if they're selling SRO it makes the attendance over 100 not the gross over its potential. I'll stop posting from my phone jeez

Who cares what the numbers are? The weekly rent is guaranteed. They get a check either way.

So of all the holdouts from the 14/15 season, the only ones left standing are "Fun Home", "Finding Neverland", "An American in Paris " and "Something Rotten", and all are scheduled to close this year.

Only Fun Home recouped it's costs, and the other musicals will have played anywhere from 16-20 months without recouping their costs...which is insane.  I'm speculating those other musicals  would have to play close to two years to turn a profit, ye gads!

I'm no expert here but I have been following the Hamilton grosses and gross potential for a few weeks now. First off, SRO would be part of the total gross if they sold them. As for Wicked or any other show, it is possible to have less than 100% attendance yet still have over 100% in potential gross.

Think of the theater seating chart as a template, with each seat assigned a set price. If every single seat is sold at its assigned set price, then the total $$$ the show gets is the total potential gross, in this case for Wicked it would be $1,779,845. If you look at the weekly history, you'll see that number as a constant for any week that has 8 performances.

Producers, however, know that investors will be happier if they see over 100% in potential gross in the reports. How do they accomplish that? By changing some seats' assigned set price to a premium seat price. My belief is that the producers and box office can alter pricing of seats in certain performances (most likely evening performances... especially Saturday eve) if they think they can sell those seats at the premium price. This is partly the reason why each week the average price sold is different.

Again, I don't work in the theater industry nor in the financial industry but these numbers do interest me and the above is what makes sense in my head. I, too, would like to learn more as these 'adaptive' pricing is very interesting.

Its a one-person show and I am sure the one-person would take a salary reduction rather than close prematurely.#

Is it me or did the summer bump not happen this summer?  I was expecting bigger numbers for a lot of shows, including TKAI, Fiddler, Neverland (which pretty much sold out last summer), Kinky (which did MUCH better a year ago), AAIP (also a steep reduction from last summer) and Rotten.

Have the tourists limited their selections even narrowly than last year?

Act of God is actually a three person show, not that it matters. It's cheap to run, still.

though it hasn't been announced, SOMETHING ROTTEN is closing this January. They're not making much money now during the busy summer season & the grosses will dip below their weekly nut come September. The St. James is planning a major renovation before FROZEN takes the theater, which is expected to take roughly a whole year.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I went on Sat night and there were a bunch of empty seats. I also won lottery. It will be a shame if they close. I think it's an amazing show.
