I still hope to go back this week. If only to watch closely as to how they do the switcheroo with the audience member.

Well if you do go back and figure it out, PM me and let me know. That was pretty amazing. And this time, I'd also keep watching the cabinet on stage before the show starts to see if I can see how that one works. I was one of the hundreds who went on stage before the show started and checked it out, Or so I thought.

Yeah, I don't think that if NPH should do Hedwig again sooner or later that it will be for the money.

Maybe it's surprising to some but not all artists do something only if the price is right. Like I highly doubt An Act of God for instance pays Jim Parsons a million (what he currently seems to be getting per episode for TBBT) per week or whatever. :P

Wait! The audience is allowed to check out the stage before the show? (I'm bringing my 14 year old and would love to surprise him with that info!)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Absolutely. Get there fairly early, and you can go on stage, check out a large trunk, and sign an envelope that is used in a trick later on. And you get to see what it feels like to be on a Broadway stage in a large theater.

First of all, as I pretty much said, it's a hunch. But it makes sense to me. Going back is in the great tradition of the theatre. JCM went back to Hedwig (twice), Alan Cumming went back to Cabaret, Channing's Dolly, Brynner's King, Guilgud's Hamlet, etc etc etc. It is not viewed as "going backward." Hedwig is one of the great roles in musical theatre; once it gets in your blood it never leaves. Some silly TV show is just a sidebar that he was hired to do, and you can be sure they are not paying him what Hedwig could and would. Could my hunch be wrong? You bet. But that's where I got "the idea."

sorry, but this doesn't make much sense to me. it may be just "some silly TV show" to you but i can guarantee it means a lot more than that to Neil. and the idea that because it's a live show, one night a week, that he's got the rest of the week free to do whatever he wants, seems naive towards the way TV works. this show will be more like SNL than the tonight show, and anyone familiar with SNL knows the amount of time and effort that goes into that show. i'm sure most of his week will be taken up in preparation and rehearsals for the actual night of the show, dress rehearsals, pre-taped segments, not to mention his involvement as an executive producer and writer and all the work that entails. his name is on the show. the number of people watching a single episode, even if the ratings are dismal, will still dwarf the total number of people who saw him in his entire Hedwig run. you don't think he's going to put every ounce of time and energy he has available into that TV show to make it a success? he's got a lot more riding on this TV show than he would on a return to Hedwig. and i can guarantee his TV salary is significantly higher than his Hedwig salary as well.

if the show tanks and gets cancelled and Hedwig is still running, i could see him going back. or closing the show out for a week while the TV show is on break. but the idea of him doing Hedwig and his TV show simultaneously is not realistic at all.

we shall see, from what i can see (and I assume you can see nothing more) this does not seem like SNL level it seems like Fallon. In any event the short run of the TV show dovetails with a return to Hedwig for the holidays and possibly beyond.

Thanks for the info, he'll love that. (I've been on a bway stage a number of times, but he has not.)

Do they still open the house at 1/2 hour or earlier?

I think half hour, but get there a bit early as Penn is also playing bass on stage from 7:30-7:45p (unannounced and not mentioned anywhere in advance, but he does this in Vegas, as well), and then he leaves 15 minutes to show time to get dressed, etc.

Also, he and Teller wait, meet, sign, and take pictures with every person who wants one after every show, including matinees.

Oooh....I'd forgotten about his performing, so thaks. We are actually at the closing performance, so I wonder if they'll still meet with all. (Is that IN the theater,; I thought I remembered someone saying the lobby?)

Lobby directly outside the theater. They actually each march up an aisle at the end of the show, so just follow them out.

Penn is rather adamant that they do it at every show, including matinees.

Thanks again for the info! We're in the mezz, so I'm sure it will take us a little longer. I have to admit, my son doesn't usually care about that kind of thing (he never cares to stage door, while my dd loves it) -- but he might feel differently about P&T!

In Neil's own words last fall when the show was announced, his goal is to host a variety show that is a modern-day take on The Ed Sullivan Show. He says that optimally, in five years, he'd like to be a cultural tastemaker like Sullivan was in his day. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5EbzkbYnvg) He very specifically said he did not want to do a late night hosting gig like David Letterman (similar to Fallon). He was approached to take over for Letterman before CBS went to Stephen Colbert and NPH turned that opportunity down.

Things may have changed about the planned substance and/or format of the show since then and may change more before it goes to air. However, it seems reasonable that he would be fairly invested in doing all he could to make the show a success when it launches, and I would guess that doing so would involve a significant amount of work and time throughout the week to prepare the show for its live hour on air.

I don't believe in using animals for entertainment, so I guess I'm out. They are definitely entertaining. I'm surprised at them. I've always respected Penn-I don't know anything about the little guy.

Actually, they go out of there way to discuss the use of these animals, including a video of how they are raising the "elephant." I doubt that even PETA would object to the use of these animals. (Well, maybe PETA would come to think of it.)

My point is that I doubt that you'd be offended and I wouldn't let it deter me from seeing the show.

You've got me curious about this "elephant". Is there spoiler text on this board? I don't want you to spoil the surprises for anyone planning to go., but is there a live elephant used in the show?
