Poor Chitty...it just keeps dropping...and dropping...

Good news Wicked heads, Wicked's at 100.1% again.

The rest of the shows look like they're doing pretty good, though.

Alll concerned at Chitty knew well in advance that September, with kids giong back to school, was going to be an exceptionally hard month...don't worry! The future most definitely looks brighter!

I have to agree with the others here that Chitty seems on shaky ground. Not sure how bright the future could be. Beauty and the Beast, also dependent upon kids, has more than 10 years on Chitty, but is outgrossing it in a smaller theatre.

Really? BATB sold only 137 more seats last week than Chitty and no one is sounding the alarm for it! That's only a difference of 17 seats sold per performance...The Hilton is huge and the percentages can be deceiving, but the raw numbers are more accurate...

Wonder why Latinologues isn't papering doing only 16% business? They desperately need word of mouth.

True, but Chitty's average ticket price was also more than $4.00 lower than Beauty's, which is another not encouraging sign. If a new show has to discount more than a very old show, the future is not especially rosy.

Margo, I thought Latinologues was papering. I was waiting to meet a friend at Sardis the other day and I overheard people standing outside with clipboards talking about comps.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Popcultureboy,

OK, I haven't seen it listed on any of the main papering sites, so I wondered. Maybe they're doing radio sponsored giveaways or something? I mean, only 16% at the teeny, tiny Helen Hayes Theatre? They only sold a total of 780 seats to 8 shows, for chrissakes -- that's fewer than 100 people per show (Suzanne Somers did better).

They'd have gotten better numbers booking Carolines for a week.

I would have thought that closing of Lennon would have raised it's numbers up! I mean, there sure were a lot of people at closing!
Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming? BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.

Margo, maybe that's it or maybe it's industry comps I heard them talking about. But there has been no press or publicity for this show that I can see and they're not putting themselves out there on papering sites to get word of mouth? I wonder why they're even bothering.

Well, this is a tour, so maybe it's a case of the producers wanting to be able to say "Direct from Broadway" in their advertising after they leave New York, and they really don't care about losing money here (and don't want to spend a penny more than they have to).

Still, it's stupid not to try to paper the house. It's stand-up comedy and I feel bad for those comedians trying to work an empty house.

ChittyChittyChittyyyy. Come on!

Granted, it is September. That show WILL last through March. Or I'll hit someone with my bamboo stick. I remember a Raul interview where he was so thrilled that the show was near-sold out every night. Guess he hadn't been used to that. And couldn't be for long. re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/25/2005

yaay for DRS climbing back into the 90s.

Chances are will go back under this week, w/ Norbie missing a couple of performances. Ah well, glad it's pretty much doing very well.

Enough about Chitty.

Look at those jumps Chicago and Charity made! Hell yeah, Charity's getting better each week, take that, haters.

The word is that Chitty sales for Nov. and Dec. are quite strong plus it had a huge advance sale. I doubt it will close in the immediate future but it does need to get through Oct and into the Thanksgiving/Christmas period.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/25/2005

I think they'll weather the storm through September and October. With the holidays in November and December, business will surely pick up (and I'm sure they have a large advance for those months). Whether or not they can make it through the long three month winter (Jan., Feb., and March) is another story entirely. I hope they do...

Please Chitty, please!

Right you are! I can assure you that there is plenty of money still in the till to keep Chitty up and running...the holiday season advance is great! And the new schedule (essentially 5 weekend performances) will also begin to have a positive effect!
