Better, but Wedding Singer STILL didn't break even for the week. It had better start turning a profit or you can forget New Years.

The wedding Singer will last because of all of the celebrities coming in...( I hope)!

How are Spelling Bee's numbers sad?

Posted: 9/5/06 at 4:16pm
haha i dunno. i guess they aren't considering the volume. i'm just looking at the actual intake. when you figure in the amount they charge for tickets i guess it isn't...
i just hope they don't take the show off broadway anytime soon

Timote, I was about to say the same thing. What's sad about 94.6% capacity? I also don't get how one could assume that one marginally good week is going to make TWS last until New Year's.

LOL! Right! Wedding Singer was only lifted cause of the holiday. It's dunzo. Tarzan needs the boot, pulling numbers lower than Beauty. Shame for shame.

Also realize that the next few weeks are traditionally some the weakest of the year at the box office. The tourists have now all gone back to school and work and every year, grosses often drop 15 - 20% (and sometimes even more) in September and October for most shows, especially the ones that have been struggling. Only the megahits (like Jersey Boys and Wicked) won't be affected.

SHAME that you have to be such a jerk about everything.
Beauty and the Beast pulled the same numbers last week that Tarzan has now. That really has no effect over it.

Happy to see Wedding Singer was up.
What would they need to pull in to break even?

Impressive jump for Inishmore in its last week -- I don't remember any other show jumping up 24% like that in its final bow. It also had its highest-grossing week ever.

I was just about to post the exact same thing, mike! I was so thrilled to see them have such a boost in the last week, including a sold out final performance (even though I'm gutted that I couldn't be there)! Good for them! Pity it couldn't have been like that throughout more of the run. Though, at least in my experience, even when they had a fairly empty house, they seemed to always have a pretty vocal and attentive audience. The crowd when I saw it last on 8/18 was small (only about 20 people in the mezz!) but everyone was totally into it and seemed to be having a ball!!
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Nice, Wedding Singer! Now if we can get up to, maybe, 85% or so, there might be hope for a little longer.

Eh, I wouldn't minds seeing wedding singer drop a little, so we can get it out and put a better show in that theatre.
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

"Eh, I wouldn't minds seeing wedding singer drop a little, so we can get it out and put a better show in that theatre".
-A lot of actors/musicians/etc. would lose their jobs
-A lot of people and even some friends of yours, enjoy this musical, you should be respectful to the fans of this show and keep those thoughts to yourself, like I did with some of the shows that recently closed, that you and many BWWers happened to enjoy.
-How did you like it when people wished that WIW closed?

Hah. Where were you when Wedding Singer did in fact "drop a little"? It's dropped a lot more than a little in the past few weeks, and nothing's happened yet.
Also, muscle, I have to point out, as much as I love The Wedding Singer, Laura DID say to bring a new show in, so those actors/musicians/etc. would lose their jobs, but new ones would be brought in. I always have to defend it when someone brings up the lost jobs, because as long as Broadway goes on, people continue getting and losing jobs.

Opening and closing is part of the circle of life of Broadway shows. The way the current demand for Broadway theatres is currently, I frankly don't feel too bad when any show closes: there is always one right behind it to employ actors/musicians etc.
