Ok, I am near certain that I'll get a ton of flames for this one, but here goes anyway...
Are there any dance/dj remixes of Broadway showtunes? NO, I don't mean like Hello Dolly or Don't Rain on My Parade or Tomorrow.
My BF is into dance/club/dj music and I am finding all these great songs I love that are redone by great DJs and I wondered if this fad (if you could call it that) stretches into the Broadway world, or if someone out there has re-mixed "Defying Gravity" or a song from Rent or Aida or whatever.
Laugh, poke fun, post a flame, whatever, but then seriously think about this.
not remixes - but check out Me First and the Gimme Gimme's - they have at least one cd full of showtunes done punk style
i wouldn't call it a remix as much as a re-do but liza has a fabulous dance version of Losing My Mind that she did with the petshop boys in the early '90's. the cd, RESULTS, is one of my favorite things on earth and will be played at my funeral.
Garland Grrl, I just adore that Losing My Mind dance version. I call it the gayest song ever recorded. Come on. Liza + Pet Shop Boys + Sondheim?
I've heard a non-Heather Headley dance mix of "Easy as Life" in clubs before, so I know there's a version of that out there someone. That's the only one I can think of on the top of my head.

There is a past post on this. Do a little searching. I beleive it was pretty extensive. Also check out Deborah Cox's Easy As life remix from Aida.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes' cd is called "Are A Drag"
there is a techno version of "On My Own".
From standing in line at Cedar Point, I found out there were techno mixes of
On My Own
Phantom Of the Opera
Music Of the Night
Tomorrow (don't ask)
and a couple others I don't remember

Gloria Gaynor had a disco version of "I Am What I Am" from "La Cage Aux Folles".
And, of course, there is the Ethel Merman Disco Album.

Do a search here: Bad New Covers of Broadway Songs. There are 4 pages of songs!
I am currently in possession of "RENT - The Remixes". (From the movie). Tracks 5 and 8 are the only two really worth listening or dancing to. There are 8 tracks on the CD. The first four are overly long (8 minute average) mid nineties dance club remixes. There are 4 different DJs represented on the disc. The second 4 tracks are the edits of the 1st four tracks. In the gay clubs in the early to mid 90's, these remixes would have been popular but today they just sound old and slightly annoying. However, as I said, track 5 (The edit of trac 1) and track 8(the edit of track 4) are ok. (I actually play track 5 a lot) I am not sure if this is available for purchase. Mine is a promo.

Karmine Alers and Ryan link have made remixes of Out Tonight and One Song Glory on their respective cds...
There is a remix of "I just wanna f***in' dance" from Jerry Springer: The Opera that is becoming really popular on club playlists.

I heard a remix of the film version of "Seasons of Love" while shopping in Lerner New York....and kind of wanted to die. Don't do that.
From 2000 a stunning bit of Euro dance music by Lora Munro of 'Do-Re-Mi' and 'My Favourite Things' - I just listened to it again it made my ears bleed!!!
However Donna Giles version of 'I am what I am' is worth it, clever mix, soulful voice, and perfect for facing the worst of the day.
I also remember from the mid 90's a techno remix of 'The Day After That' from 'Kiss of the Spiderwoman' - first time I heard it at 5am on a hot dancefloor it rather freaked me out, my two worlds of musicals and dance collided together.

Check out Harajuku. I think they did the remix of On My Own and bunch of other songs. Here's a link to their CD on CDNOW: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000003E8G/qid=1144353364/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-4628039-4276920?v=glance&s=music

i think what you're looking for is a remix of a good song but one that you can dance to as well. Try listening to 'Mint Royale's version of 'singin in the rain'. You can find it on youtube as well because the britain't got talent winner (George Sampson)danced to it in the semi-final, and final round. It was amazing. Hope that helps! X
I heard a remix of the film version of "Seasons of Love" on KTU and kind of wanted to die. Don't do that.
There are four(?) remixes of "And I Am Telling" you available--I think on iTunes.
