Calling all New York residents!
Does anyone know of any bars in Manhattan or Brooklyn that play showtunes?
Back where I used to live there was a bar that would show various Broadway performances (from the Tony's or films) on TV screens around the bar. People would sing along and just have a grand old time. Anyone know of any local places that do something similar?
Thanks,
Buckly

Splash, er, excuse me, SBNY does Musical Mondays.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
If you want fun & sophisticated, Table 12 on E. 56th btwn Park & Lex. Michael Garin is a human juke box. There Tues - Fri 7-midnight
If you want fun & rowdy, Don't Tell Mama on W. 46th btwn 8th & 9th. Diff. pianists. I think they start @ 9 & go very late.

The last time I went to Don't Tell Mama the crowd was really rude and loud. However, the bartenders/waitresses are incredibly talented and really nice. I will go back but I really wanted to throw drinks at the noisy table in front of the piano.
Marie's Crisis Cafe, one block north of Christopher Street!
It's really fun on a Saturday night, though any night is cute. It's an underground dive bar with a piano and happy gay men and women gathered around singing with their Long Island ice teas!
Right next door, in the general area, is Rose's Turn... a piano bar where they sing pop and showtunes.
Don't Tell Mama.
OSU--the place you are looking for is def SBNY on Monday nights. But there are indeed tons of great piano bars around the city. Another fun one is Cast Party at Birdland on Monday nights. And Scott Nevins' shows are fun.

I did some research into this. Is SBNY a club or a bar? I'm not looking for pulsing dance music and light shows. Preferbly no dance floor either. Just a fun bar atmosphere.
I appreciate all the feedback. It seems like a piano bar is more appropriate to what i'm looking for.

I know The Townhouse plays showtunes and videos downstairs. Not sure if it is every night. And they have a piano bar where you can sing show tunes on the main floor in the back.

I know that Scott Alan puts on a little Cabaret thing with his friends sometimes. I don't know which bar; I'm sure you can look it up somewhere.

If you are looking for an evening of drinks, sing along, and VIDEOS of musicals and Tony performances, SBNY Musical Mondays is exactly what you are looking for. It's a dance club at other times. But during Musical Mondays, there are no flashy lights or techno music. Just Jennifer Holiday and Patti LuPone and Wicked, etc. It's just like the musical nights I have been to in Seattle and Houston that occur in non-dance club bars.

SBNY sounds really cool but when I googled it it said it was a gay bar. As a straight woman would my friends and I sitck out or do other women frequent the place as well.
Hello there. In answer to your question I host a broadway night every week at a lovley little dive called Pieces. Every Wednesday starting at 10pm you can enjoy the complex muti talents of Miss Vodka Stinger who will guide you through the world of the showtune. Its a lot of fun. I show tons of rare wierd clips and i never repeat week after week unlike some other bars i could mention.....splash. Why not name names... The drinks are cheap and so is the hostess. So come in WEDNESDAY NIGHT and join Miss Vodka Stinger for an evening of broadways best...and worst

It is a gay bar.... but the bartenders are hot and shirtless. If for nothing else, you get a little eye candy. Im a straight woman, and I <3 musical Mondays!

Cabchic--of course, you are welcome to a gay bar. And lots of women go. Lots of straight women. You would fit right in.
Edited to add: granted, there are some gay bars out there that only gay men would feel comfortable at--and even then only a select group of gay men lol. But there are straight bars like that. I, myself, prefer bars that cater to everyone and anyone in its atmosphere.
Also, there is Therapy, there used to a be a drag queen that did showtunes. I don't know if she works there still.

And how would I feel as a straight man? I'm not afraid of gay men, but I don't want it to seem like I'm out to hook up either. If I went with my girlfriend, would I fit in?

Yes! lol And if a boy flirts with you, just be flattered. But most people are there to enjoy the showtunes--not hook up. At least that was MY perspective last I went lol.
Muscle, I don't think she does anymore at Therapy. The last time I was there someone said they didn't do it anymore. I just looked on their website and didn't see a Broadway night.

Oh, OSU! You're making me giggle.
Straight men at gay bars aren't like the plague!
1. Smart straight men go to gay bars because they know there are a few single straight girl hotties in the crowd
2. Gay guys aren't stupid. We can spot a straight guy in a crowd and won't waste our time (unless we're plastered and blind)
3. And if you are flirted with, take it as a compliment. You know who you are and you are (presumably) comfortable with your sexuality, so with or without your girlfriend, you'll be fine. It's not like you're going into shark infested waters. We're just pretty boys.
Go have a blast! If you don't want over-stimulation, I'd stay out of Splash and find a cozy piano bar. But Monday Nights at SBNY are a real hit.

Don't Tell Mama!!!! Go on a Saturday night...the line-up is great. Jennifer Kruskamp is fantastic.
I try to avoid gay bars. It is very depressing.
So many hot men you can't have. I went once a few years ago to Scott Nevins show and it was full of the best looking men in NYC.
I was so depressed.
And don't even try going to the ladies room. They don't have one.
I had to go to the mens room and two men were having some action when I was in my stall. I thought I would die.
I went to Musical Monday's at Splash once last September and LOVED it. i plan on going there more often once i have my own apartment in manhattan!
