In Broadway.com's article on the tony nominations they list the productions that did not recieve a single nomination and they fail to mention All Shook Up's lack of nominations (much to my suprise)! Did anyone else notice this?
good eye.
i cant believe ASU didnt get any
Nope.
I'm surprised David Rockwell didn't get a nomination for his All Shook Up set...oh wait he did...a few years ago. It was called Hairspray.
Just kidding. David Rockwell is an idol of mine.

If they deserved anything, it was lead actor and orchestrations. I really thought they could've had a chance of winning for orchestrations.

I also noticed this immediately. I thought Jackson and or the girl (sorry) MIGHT get nominated, but from what I hear, I really thought they would have got a scenic design nom and possible orchestration.
Jenn Gambatese.
I wanted Cheyenne and Jenn to get nominated!
Or All Shook Up to get something!!!!!!!!!
I'm so sad!
Am I the only person who thought that show didn't deserve anything? Honestly, I thought it was awful when I saw it. I can't see any of its appeal.
According to Variety, the Tony nominators wanted to "send a message" to jukebox musicals. Shame on them. All reports indicate that Cheyenne Jackson gave a Tony-worthy performance, and to ignore him is a slap in the face to all the people who labored hard to create this show. So what if the songs aren't original. Everything else is: book, performances, direction, choregraphy, sets, lighting, costumes, orchestrations. Ignore Good Vibrations, fine. It got unanimous bad reviews. But All Shook Up certainly deserved some recognition by the Tonys.
I liked the choreography quite a bit.

I loved the orchestrations. "Cant help falling in love" sounded great especially.

While Jenn and Cheyenne are both excellent, I'm not surprised neither got a nod because the competition is quite stiff this year. But I thought the set design was one of the best I had seen in a long time. The way they showed movement, and the final chapel set. I thought they were a shoo-in for a nom. And the orchestrations and choreography were wuite good as well. There probably is some truth to the variety article...
Man its like they want to pretend ASU doesn't even exist...

I visited the ASU website today, and "Can't Help..." sounded great, even on the poor quality clip they had playing in the background.

I realized last night that they weren't going to get anything...and I mean ANYTHING.
I was happy when I saw the article in Variety because it explained why I realized they weren't going to get any recognition. It sucks, but it's the truth. They wanted to send a message and they did.
You don't want to nominate it for Best Musical...fine. But I honestly think All Shook Up is more-than worthy of at least one nomination, let alone an actual award. I can understand them wanting to poo on the fact that it's a jukebox musical, but they couldn't even give it a nom for sets?
Say what you want about the show because it's a jukebox musical, but the sets are completely independent of that fact. I didn't see Pacific Overtures and I haven't seen Piazza yet, but I defintely think ASU's sets were better than Spamalot's.
Sigh. Politics...
Watch "All Shook Up" will be around for alot longer than some of the shows nominated.
I loved it! And i was keeping my fingers crossed for Sharon Wilkins...but oh well. I'll keep rooting for them

And what a shame that is if this prophecy comes true.

well, as much as i was hoping to see at least a performance of this show on the tonys or at least SOMEWHERE! I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the cast recording!
I can't wait for the cast recording! Are they going to do a CD signing party?
Cheyenne is wonderful, he absolutely deserved recognition.
John Lithgow did NOT need another undeserved nomination. (Anyone else still angry that he not only STOLE a nomination from Hunter Foster for Urinetown and ended up winning that Tony for his lousy 'Sweet Smell of Success' performance?) Grr...
While I wouldn't go as far as saying this show was terrible, I will say I wholeheartedly agree with the reviews that said it was average. It frustrated me as I saw it midway through previews and it fell short of being total mindless fun, but only just. It kept threatening to break out into being a song and dance extravaganza and then it never did. Shame.
The stuff shirts @ the nominating committee probably thinks ASU is not worthy of Broadway as it is not lofty enough & all is does is entertain. We see it Sunday & I guarantee if we see Bee we will enjoy ASU much more
