Broadway in Boston finally announces its 2009-2010 season

What do you think?

Even though it is nice when older shows return, I am a bit disappointed that some are especially since they just were in the couple of seasons (specifically Mamma Mia and Avenue Q). Also, Cats came within the past couple of years. Lion King has not been around in a few years, though.

I am excited for In the Heights and August Osage: County, but my feelings about the season are mixed.

wow thats a really good season, to me, I don't have any town by me, but the closest one have a pretty good season

I am grateful, I just find it funny that we are getting Mamma Mia for the third time in the past few years.

It's too bad there was no season announcement event that was supposed to happen.

This 2009-2010 season is a mixed blessing. Good news: In the Heights and August: Osage County, and there are those up here who'll be happy with Avenue Q and even Young Frankenstein (not me), but many of the other shows have been this way one too many times. And can someone cure the BW in Boston organization from its semi-addiction to Mamma Mia? I mean, mamma mia!!...enough's enough.

How many of those shows are non-Equity?

That's an awful lot of non-Equity shows being billed as part of a "Broadway in ... " series. Is Young Frankenstein non-Equity?

Having never been to the Colonial Theater can anyone give me advice on how the cheap seats are there? Seats to avoid?

We're considering taking a bus up from NYC to see RENT in Boston.

Ticketmaster is showing $20 seats at the Colonial and I'm wondering how they are.

It's probably all we can afford when we add meals and transportation in just for the day trip, but don't want to do a 9 hour round trip commute only to have a miserable experience. :)

The Colonial is a very stacked theater, so the balcony isn't too bad. I sat there the last time Avenue Q was in town and it actually wasn't too bad for that show. Very high, however. I don't agree that I feel very far away, though. It's not orchestra close, of course, but still not a bad deal for $20. Now the balcony in the Opera House...there you feel miles away!

NuMystic, are you a student by chance? I believe Rent is going to have student rush tickets as part of Broadway Across America-Boston series, but I'm still waiting for details from their facebook page. They are usually $25 one hour prior to showtime (but they usually are not available on Sat evening). Also, I'm sure the regular $20 front rows seats are happening, but I haven't heard if they are general rush or lotto yet. Anyone?

is it bad that I'm most jealous of PIttsburgh's season?

I'm really dissapointed with Philly's. The only exciting ones are August and Dreamgirls. We don't get Xanadu, Young Frankenstein, In the Heights, or South Pacific.

I believe that just like on Broadway it up to the producers of the show. The producers have asked that Rent on tour have a lotto and so most theatres have been nice enough to do so. But, it wouldn't shock me to hear that they were going to do the lotto plus the typical Broadway in Boston student rush.
