If you measured all your time listening to music as 100%, what percent would be Broadway recordings/Broadway related music (ie. musical theatre actors/singers who have solo albums)?
I'd say I listen to Broadway at least 70% of the time.

Posted: 7/2/06 at 10:44pm85% maybe. I find myself listening to Broadway music whenever I can. In the car or while I'm in my room. I use to LOVE other types of music, but I find that I buy more cast recording then I do normal CDs. But I do like to change it up every now and then.

90% at least.
I hate calling "Broadway" a genre, though, as it is so diverse.

Lately? 90%
In general? 50%
Once I "wear out" my newest cast albums I'll probably go back to other music more.

Posted: 7/3/06 at 4:08amI'd say 90%. I love MTV and watching TRL a few times a week, but comparatively, my iTunes is 90% Broadway. I find myself struggling to put together mix CDs with songs that haven't been staged.

Agreed that "Broadway" as a genre doesn't really work, because it's so broad and varied. 'The Light In The Piazza' and 'RENT', for instance, really don't go well together, and nor do 'Beauty And The Beast' and 'Sweeney Todd'.
Looking at my CDs, I'd say it's 50% Broadway/musical theatre to everything else. ("Everything else" being classical, movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks, game soundtracks, and normal pop/rock music. Although half the normal pop/rock music is Broadway stars' solo albums... XD) But I listen to Broadway probably something like 90% of the time.
My brain is wired in such a way that I have serial interests. I'll be really into something for a while, when I absolutely cannot get enough of it, then eventually, that wanes a little, and something else becomes flavour of the month, and the one that was It before just becomes something I really like. Listening to a show feels more varied than listening to an album. A Steps album, for instance, is fun, cheesy, dancey pop music. A cast recording is a story running the whole gamut of emotions. It takes me much longer to get "bored" with a cast recording because of that. And I don't really get bored of them, because I still love all the shows that I've loved. They just stop being that Flavour Of The Month. :)
Also, I wasn't always rabidly into Broadway, which is when I was buying CDs from all sorts of sources. Now I really am rabidly into Broadway, and any money I can afford to spend on music goes on cast recordings. So I expect my Broadway-other CD owning ratio to drastically alter over the coming eyars. ^_^

on iTunes, I have about 98% showtunes, with the 2% music from the movie Camp (which I guess would still be sondheim and what not)
so about 99%

Posted: 7/3/06 at 3:48pmI'd say around 45%... I love my lounge/standards, groove/funk, dance and japanese music way too much.

Posted: 7/3/06 at 4:52pmThe music I want to listen and pop it in my CD player or on my desk top is 100% Broadway. :) (It wouldn't be 100% if you count those awful rock background music on Myspace and radio that just happened to be on)

its so much easier to discover new broadway songs that you have never heard but when i listen to other genres i feel like almost every song sounds as similar as the last, and i feel like i've heard these songs 100 times before, idk why. maybe its just me but i dont think enough regular music is released to compete with the bottomless supply of BROADWAY songs

hmmm this one's tough for me.
Probably 50% Broadway
20% Classical
15% Movie Scores
15% "Pop" music
#13re: Broadway music vs. other types of music
Posted: 7/3/06 at 5:53pmI listen to Broadway music about 98% of the time. I listen to a few Billy Joel songs and my sister's fiancee's CD.
#14re: Broadway music vs. other types of music

90-95% Broadway / West End. The rest of my music is pop or very soft rock - I admit I have quite a narrow taste in music.
I find that musical theatre songs just "speak" to me in a way that most other music doesn't. No matter what mood I'm in, there will always be a song from a show that it just feels right to listen to or will make me feel better or whatever. With most other music, it's just... noise.

Hahha...lately it's been 95%....the other 5% has been Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, and other theatre people's solo albums....so it's not EXACTLY bway, but it's quite related.
I NEED HELP, whee!

Posted: 7/3/06 at 7:52pmMy collection is probably about 60-40 in favor of Broadway or theater related cds (I have a REALLY large collection of CDs), but actual LISTENING time is probably closer to 90-10
#18re: Broadway music vs. other types of music
Posted: 7/3/06 at 7:58pmIf I'm not listening to musicals, its either Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, other standard or vocal performers, and then like 5% mixed.

Posted: 7/3/06 at 7:59pmMy collection is about 95% musical theater. My listening habits lately have been probably 85% musical theater, 10% classical, 5% whatever else. I used to listen to a lot more pop radio, but pop music is definitely in a slump right now and there are only about 5 songs that I can stomach at the moment.

Posted: 7/3/06 at 8:27pmI used to listen to Broadway 100%, until about five years ago. Now it's more like.....90% Broadway, 5% whatever pop/rock stuff is on 93.9 (my favorite radio station), 4% old rock and roll stuff (creedence clearwater revival, billy joel, etc...), and 1% Jimmy Buffet.
#22re: Broadway music vs. other types of music
Posted: 7/3/06 at 8:45pmI'm an odd one, I listen to Broadway about 60% of the time, and industrial, heavy metal, and indie the other 40% of the time.
#23re: Broadway music vs. other types of music
Posted: 7/3/06 at 8:50pmProbably about 85%, the rest is classical and a bit of pop
