Broadway stars on soaps

I happened across One Live to Live and saw that Kathy Brier (Hairspray) and Matt Cavanaugh (Urban Cowboy) are currently involved in a storyline involving Matt's character coming out. Typical soap opera writing, with the obligatory homophobe character. Anyhow, I'll suffer through to see Matt!!

Anyone know of other broadway actors doing soap duty? I can only think of Tonya Pinkins on All My Children.

Alice Ripley was supposed to have a recurring role on All My Children recently, so I started watching. But, I saw her for all of a minute or two and never again. Odd...

Lea Salonga used to play Lien Hughes on As the World Turns. Laura Bell Bundy had a steady character (Marah) on Guiding Light.

Not a soap - but the other day i saw Blair Brown on ER.

Many of the beauties from the original cast of NINE (in the 80s) were on ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE while the show was running.

Larry Keith, currently in Caroline or Change and formerly in Titanic, played Nick Davis on All My Children in the 70s, making occasional appearances since then.

Dumb question I always wondered about. Is Laura Bell Bundy related to the famous Bell soap opera producer? Oh and Robert Torti was great on Days of Our Lives years back.

Tammy Blanchard from Gypsy was on Guiding Light for a few years.

Probably the one with most actors recently pulling double-duty is OLTL. As mentioned before Kathy did Hairspray concurrently. Peter Bartlett is a long-running recurring character on OLTL, and is in The Frogs now and Never Gonna Dance last season. Also, Renee Elise Goldsberry was in the final months of her Lion King stine when she started doing OLTL, now she's on contract. Jay Wilkison did Rent on tour right before the show, not sure about Broadway. Heather Tom was in Prymate, and I believe is working on another OB project. Saundra Santiago did Nine and just started this week on OLTL. Shane McRae, who's stepping in as Paul Cramer for a week, did Take Me Out. Jon-Paul Lavoisier does a lot of OB stuff currently. Robin Strasser did Allergist's Wife at Papermill last season. Mark Dobies and another actor worked on Normal Heart.

Can you tell I love the show?

Alice Ripley is done with AMC, as Erica's Vegas showgirl storyline is over. I think she popped up in maybe three eps, but the storyline was crap so she was probably better off!

Kerry Butler was on a soap. I saw a clip of it on her website.

So was Hugh Panaro.

When was Audra on Y&R?!? I have watched that show since an embarrassingly young age and don't remember her.( I'm ashamed even to admit that.)

A couple more from All My Children:

Eden Riegel (Bianca) played Young Cosette in Les Miz and I saw William Christian (Derek) off-Broadway in "The Boys in the Band".

Also, Catherine Hickland from One Life to Live played Fantine in Les Miz. She even has a Broadway CD out...

If you look in your playbills or on the websites at the cast's bios, you can see that many of them have been in a soap opera, whether it be a small part on one or two episodes or a lead role for some time.

Andrea Marcovicci, the cabaret diva who has also appeared in Broadway shows, was on the soap opera Love is a Many Splendoured Thing.

We just saw her two weeks ago at San Francisco's Plush Room. We were in the first row. She performed her tribute to Fred Astaire. Not since Marlene Dietrich has a woman ever looked so ravishing and divine in black tie and tails (or was it white tie with Dietrich?).

After the show she signed CD's and spoke with fans. She kissed my spouse, Ruth, and I on the lips and thanked us for being two women holding hands in public "from the very beginning". She had spoken out in favor of lesbian and gay marriage equality rights during her show and had sung more than one romantic song while looking at the two of us and smiling.

After Bette Midler's recent refusal (in The Advocate magazine interview)to support lesbian and gay marriage equality, itis important to know who our friends our and to support their shows and careers.

So here's to Andrea Marcovicci!

Robert Evan was on All My Children a couple of times and Robert Cuccioli has also been on one of the soaps...I don't remember which one at the moment.
