you beat me to it bobbybubby...i posted a short review on the Debra Monk thread from Saturday night's performance.
Brooke is not tacky!!!
I became a huge fan after seeing her in Wonderful Town. I'm seeing Chicago for my first time to see her, and I love the show itself. Looking forward to it. My mom is a huge Brooke fan so she can't wait for Saturday.
Brooke was a delight in Wonderful Town...I doubt she will be as good in Chicago....but im sure she will be great in it.
Muscle you and i both know that when it comes to Brooke we disagree.
Well it is good to hear that she is decent, because she truely killed Wonderful Town in my eyes.
well...it's me and all the critics in New York City that thought she was amazing.
Some critics also like Melanie Griffith. So there ya go.
Muscle, get over it. Not everyone likes Brooke as a broadway performer.
Correction : Brantley was the really the only critic that raved about Melanie. Clive Barnes went on to say she was the worst Roxie he's ever seen.
Brooke got across the board rave reviews from the top critics in WT.
And just some info. Brooke is doing all the original choreography for Roxie. Melanie Griffith did basically none of Reinking's original Roxie choreo, Melanie mainly just bopped her head and did a kick here and there.
I personally am I fan of Brooke mainly because she is an example that you don't need this amazing singer and belty woman to make a role powerful and meaningfull.

Well, she's not doing all the original choreography - she doesn't do the leap in Me and My Baby, for example, but a lot of Roxies haven't. The changes are minimal, though. She's obviously not a Fosse dancer at all, but she can move. I thought she was pretty good, though I liked her better in Wonderful Town, she made a fine Roxie. Way better than Melanie, IMHO.
Melanie was terrible...I think she got good reviews from Brantley (tnks for reminding me the name, ljay) because after all, Roxie is a girl with no talent and sometimes a bad singer and dancer can showcase that. Melanie was so bad in it...that somehow she was cute. Deidre Goodwin was dancing next to her at the end...and it looked like a joke...one, a great dancer and singer and Melanie was next to her...doing what she can...she was sooooo bad...it was kinda funny/cute.
NBC. Ann Reinking choreographed 3 different versions of ME AND MY BABY.
Level 1 - shuffles, kicks etc.
Level 2 - a little more advanced
level 3 - which include the leaps.
So Brooke is probally doing a level 2. Only the REAL trained dancers can handle the leaps. But apparantly Melanie did an even easier version than a level 1!

I think even Ann stopped doing the leaps after awhile. Very few Roxies I've seen have done them...Charlotte, Tracy Shayne, Michelle deJean, I think, to name a few.
Brooke's Roxie choreography seemed a little bit different, too...mostly I think it's because she hasn't quite gotten the hang of "Fosse arms" yet. But she definitely dances much better than Melanie! No arguments there.
Actually i am reading her book at the moment and have found a new respect for her.
Emo i laughed my way through it....no i am kidding i'm not that mean to her.... I was thinking about this tonight why i don't like her and i think it is just that i feel like when i have seen her perform she doesn't have the energy to push a show.. Her singing is ok, i can't really atest to dancing scince she hadn't really done any in WT.
