Brooke Shields will finally originate a role

@ luvtheemcee: It's not a big deal. I was just stating my opinion. I don't think Shields has anything to worry about. They are both very talented individuals and I think they compliment each other very well and will make a terrific team. I hope the show finds success and makes a transition to Broadway. I love them both. Well, I love Raul a "little" more! Brooke Shields will finally originate a role

It's funny Chitty was brought up, as despite Raul's "presence," Jan Maxwell walked off and stole that entire show, disastrous as it ultimately was. But, Raul as a song and dance man was always a bad idea.

The only show I've seen him in where he was leaps and bounds better than his co-stars was Cabaret, which was the only truly incredible performance I've seen him give.

He was good in The Homecoming, but no better than his co-stars. He was fine in Anyone Can Whistle, but that show belonged to Donna Murphy (though Esparza was eons better than Sutton).

I'm about the only person on Earth who disliked him in Company.

I was talking specifically about his pairing with Erin Dilly, and the other women who played Truly. I was trying to edit that for clarity in my other post, but the "edit" button has been disappearing on-and-off all day. Caractacus didn't really have much interaction with the Baroness, anyway.

(And I am hardly using Chitty as an example of Raul doing his best work -- it just made the point.)

Aw...I'm just messin with y'all...

Okay, her movies weren't so bad but I saw her in Grease and she had miscast written all over her. Then along came the Cabaret revival and had to look at the floor half the time. Every time I see her in a Broadway show it's like watching Lucy stumble thru Indian Love Song on the bandstand! A slow motion train wreck.

Hopefully a live audience (if there even was one for Suddenly Susan) taught her a few things that Broadway couldn't do for her. I wish her the best but I won't be going to see her anymore.

But you didn't see her in Wonderful Town and Chicago? Her performances in those two musicals were better recieved than the ones you saw. She would have been a major Tony contender if she opened the WT revival.

Adamgreer- You're not the only one with that opinion. Granted, I only ever saw the PBS Broadcast, but he just came off as a jackass to me. No wonder he wasn't married.

Adam and singtopher-I am with both of you. I avoid Raul like the plague. I have never liked him in anything and his goat-vibrato makes me want to tear my ears off. I understand he is a prima donna to work with too. However, some people seem to like him so live and let live.

... and here we go.

Ironic that this is now turning into the exact opposite of what madbrain was so concerned about, no? Brooke Shields will finally originate a role

I'm sorry if that sounded harsh, and I know I am in the minority, but I find his rendition of "Being Alive" unlistenable.

Like Ljay889 said, Brooke Shields was exceptional in Wonderful Town and I'm sure she will be great in Leap of Faith. She's also a very kind person.

It's funny how people claim to avoid certain performers but jump right away at the chance to bash them or spread rumors about them (the nature of theater message boards I guess). I had the pleasure of working with Raul (two events) and he was really nice and easy going. A fun and extremely talented man who really loves what he does, unlike so many others.

Leap of Faith sounds promising, I hope it all goes well.

I apologize if I seems like I'm bashing Esparza. I find him to be a wonderful actor in most things, but i found his Bobby unsympathetic.
