Saw Brooklyn in October and as soon as my husband and I walked out of the show I immediately wanted to buy tickets to see it again and did. I found the show one of the best to hit Broadway in a long time. The cast, sets and costumes all fit the storyline but the highlights were the voices and the music and the highly gifted cast.
I have read the mediocre reviews of this show and I simply do not agree with them.

OH MY GOD. Honey, that is the single most overused shill line of all time and has been mocked repeatedly on this site. "After the show, which got a standing ovation in spite of what the critics say, most people in the audience immediately went out to the box office to buy tickets to see it again! If it can just hold on til Tony time it will definitely get some nominations and probably win some and then it will have an audience."

Namo, I was there last night and they had to stop the show quite a few times to ask the audience to sit down and stop applauding so much. It was on the same scale as seeing Jennifer Holiday in DREAMGIRLS.

I was there too, Matt and the audience reception reminded me of Begnini when he won the Oscar. It was INSANE!

So let me get this straight...a new person (Cougarlady) registers on broadwayworld.com today (10/22) and their first post is starting a new thread (this one!) about one particular show (Brooklyn)?? Ugh!

Cougarlady..I agree with you 157%. It is the bestest show ever..it is the new Barnum...I saw the show and loved it so much that I went to buy tickets for the next day during intermissions and they told me it was sold out! So get you're tickets now! If you missed Iram la Duce, you don't want to miss this one! Call now..1-800-IMN-OTASHILL.

We care because shills join the board under false pretenses. The intent of this board isn't to sell shows; it's to discuss them. When people have an unrevealed financial or personal stake in the show, it skews the discussion in ways that range from deceptive to infuriating.

Or at least that's why I care.

Matt and Popculture, the show got the same response here in Denver every night. Word of mouth really sold the show. It also got good reviews here. I think a lot of people will like it despite the reviews. And I bet a lot of people, especially tourists, see shows based on word of mouth. I know a lot of people who see shows and have never read the reviews. And I don't think shills on these boards are going to make any difference. These boards seem to be mostly populated by people who are really into theatre. The average theatergoer and tourist probably don't even know these boards exist. Just my opinion.
