Brooklyn Is It a Paradise or Paradice?

I went last night to Brooklyn.
The singers were all very talented. I was most impressed with the woman who played PARADICE. Her voice was paradise.
Eden Espinosa was also very impressive.
The book, score and story were a mess and the costumes looked like GARBAGE BAGS. What were they thinking?
Brooklyn reminded me of old star search with music sung by Sam Harris.
Buy the cd as the voices are incredible but the story is so bad you will continue praying for it to end.
In the last scene PARADICE wears a hefty bag and that was when I had to get out of there.
Talent- 10
Book- 0
Score- 0
Story negative 200
Costumes- The worst I have ever seen shocking how bad. Hefty trash bags.

Joey-
The music was sung to perfection and I was entertained. The plot was silly and I found it annoying. The Mother coming back for example was laughable. It was also annoying how the narrator explains every scene. It was not difficult to follow.
The singers are incredible. I did have a good time but this show would work much better in a small theater as a concert. Take out the story and you would have a good show.
And remove the garbage bag costumes.
It was ridiculous the evil woman wore a black hefty bag and Eden wore a white hefty bag. These women should be in hip costumes not plastic bags.
It left GARBAGE on my mind.

you've got to be kidding the costumes are the most creative, ever, TONY winners for sure. These are homeless people putting on a show, finding props and clothes in the trash. If you don't get this you saw the wrong show, Bombay Dreams has nice costumes.

Posted: 10/5/04 at 9:03amIn all seriousness, if CORINE didn't like it, I'm really afraid. Maybe they should just cut their losses now. I am truly in disbelief. And to mention garbage bags as costumes in the same sentence as Bombay Dreams' costumes, that's just lunacy. The only thing worthwhile and quite beautiful in BD, were the costumes.

My friend who saw it said the audience laughed out loud when the mother re-appeared as a ghost/angel with a halo made of a circular neon lightbulb...he thought it was totally pathetic.
Yes- I tend to think that If Corine gave it such a bad review - there really IS no hope.

They should just couple with Dracula, and call it "The Dance of the Vampire in Brooklyn"
Then they could use the trash bags as snazzy capes.

Posted: 10/5/04 at 9:34amBrooklyn isn't any different from Wicked or Boy From Oz... it's going to have its unflagging fans, it's going to have its detractors, and it will probably win some big awards, including a Tony for Miss Espinosa.

TheGA - I'm usually one who agrees with you but if ANYONE will win I'm afraid it will be Ramona (Paradice) as she IS the show imo. It could have been called PARADICE instead of BKLYN and this is coming from an Eden fan..

These are homeless people putting on a show, finding props and clothes in the trash.
Even most homeless people I've seen find something better to wear than trash bags. And I'm terribly confused- if there's some kind of public sing-off at the end, why exactly are its organizers letting the contestants go on in trash bag costumes? I'm pretty sure I heard something about a dressing room, too. Doesn't make any sense to me.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy yourself, Corine.

I had fun. I loved the voices and I must say train wrecks are very interesting. I could not stop staring.

I never said I hated it. I loved the singers. I did not like the story, the sets or the costumes.
It would work as a concert

"the costumes looked like GARBAGE BAGS. What were they thinking?"
LOL. That is what they were thinking. They are streetsingers underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. They wanted that to be the look.
