His character on The Good Fight is a reprisal of the same character on The Good Wife, and I always thought he made the most of a small guest spot role. It’s what he said beneath the surface that shines through his funny and biting remarks.

I hope he does many more juicy roles to come. I’m sad I missed his turn as Prior in Angels in America (I saw it before he replaced Christian Borle). He certainly deserved Tony recognition for Torch Song.

It was brilliant. Not only a wonderfully charming and capable performance but the perfect thing to watch in quarantine. It's difficult to think of another show that would translate as well in that kind of a simple livestream set up. Even other one person shows might suffer in silence the way Buyer and Cellar doesn't when it deals with isolation and prolonged silences anyway. I was so excited for this and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Also, it seemed like there were many donations throughout the night.

There are those who would question your assessment of Hamlet being straight. Think of the way he treats Ophelia.

Yes, i remember when he did guest appearances on TGW as well. (Longtime fan of both). You're right about his character - and I looked forward to his appearances each week. 

Someone said they wondered if he could play a straight role. That is what was refereshing in his TGW / TGF character - he wasn't playing a 'flamboyant' character, and he could convince me he was straight. (If that makes sense). 

My only criticism with last night's performance was I think he borrowed some of his antics from Sean Hayes. Every now and then I thought I was watching "Jack" from 'Will & Grace'. He needs to be careful with that, IMO.

We just finished. THANK YOU to everyone who posted earlier about it - a wonderful recommendation and a lot of fun. He was fantastic, and it was such a great break from everything going on out in the world. We really enjoyed it.

I almost wish Randy rainbow would do this play. He would bring a totally different energy to it then Michael Urie's.

His caricature of Brolin was the character of Alex More (a Gay character) recreating Brolin for the purpose of the telling of this story. If you want to believe who could "play straight" - it would be Alex.

RESPECTFULLY - The complexity of Urie's extremely laudable performance (including his representations of both Streisand and Brolin, as created by the Gay character of Alex) doesn't factor into any believably regarding whether/not Urie can "play straight" in any other situation.

I truly don't mean to chide you for your comment. I just think that Urie's performance should be lauded for what it is. If you believe the representation of Brolin "worked" in this performance, then please give Urie his due.

The caricature of Brolin you saw wasn't Urie. It most definitely was the Gay character of Alex, recreating his moment with Brolin - brilliantly performed by Urie.

Can Urie handle straight characters believably? Why question it? Cast him. (so, yeah... back-handedly, I agree with you)

This was so delightful. And I think the most successful attempt I've seen at streaming something live so far. It was remarkable how much you were able to fall right into the story.

Okay calm down, I meant to say that Urie as an actor has range and can do more than play a flamboyant character, which we saw shades of in his character’s depiction of another character. I believe he has the emotional well to “play straight,” which I already put in quotations the first time I made the comment. He’s a wonderful comedic and dramatic actor who fully commits to a role. If you read any of my previous comments, you can see I’m already a huge fan of his and believe he does more than just play a stereotype, no matter his character.

He has in fact done a considerable amount of work playing straight characters. I first came upon him when he was a student at Juilliard, and I have seen a decent amount of his work. He is a gay actor and a good  human being, which does not mean that he cannot play straight characters any more than he cannot play mean nasty ones. He is a consummate actor who happens to have made (I assume) a lot more money playing gay characters than anything else.

We loved this show in NYC when Urie was in it, and adored it again last night and made a healthy donation.  We had forgotten enough of the details including the ending that it totally kept us glued to the screen
