Lea Michele will announce she wants Red/Cinderella/Baker's Wife/Witch within a few days.
Well she just won the prestigious People's Choice Award. It's only a matter of time until she is cast and gettin' that Oscar.

Josh Groban just came on Pandora and it hit me that he'd make a fantastic Baker, opposite Hathaway, Adams or Witherspoon. With Pfeiffer, Collette or Winslet as the Witch.
Does Kristin Scott Thomas sing well enough to play the Witch? She'd act the crap out, certainly pull off the switch to gorgeous, and I know she was originally cast as Desiree in Paris but had to leave and was replaced by Greta Scacchi.

Pfeiffer pretty much already did the ugly witch/beautiful witch thing in "Stardust".

Those Glee brats better stay far far away. Or I'll slice them into a thousand bits.
I said this on one of numerous other threads, but Merle Louise as Granny. Ha ha ha, no one can honestly ay she's too old.
Laura Linney would also be an amazing Bakers Wife.
So after the Golden Globes tonight...and seeing Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy together singing...just imagine them as the Baker and his wife.
Just think about Felicity Huffman's "Ah, I pulled it from a maiden in a tower." or "We are moving." or William H. Macy's "I just wanted to make sure you really loved this cape."
Is it just me??
Love the idea of Linney as the Baker's Wife. I actually think Penelope Cruz would have a blast as the Witch.

Macy has a tv show at the moment for show time, though it only a half season thing, woods would have to work around that. So i don't know how that's going to happen.
Linney as the Baker's Wife is freaking brilliant. Warm, droll, heartbreaking, "no one is alone" generous, light-touch crackerjack funny, "passionate, charming, considerate, clever," - all of those things which made Gleason unforgettable.
Has she ever sung?
On a different note, I agree Macy and Huffman were adorable singing together last night - I could see it.
They're both too old to be expecting their first baby.
Best12 it's a fairy tale for goodness's sake! A childless wannabe mother in a fairy tale can be an only slightly premenopausal 50ish actress who looks 40ish. Hell, I know a lot of women on the Upper West Side who fit that description. And as for it being their first baby as opposed to a later one, there's this little matter of a curse explaining why it would be their first - it's rather an important feature of the plot.
More importantly here's Laura singing on youtube. Love her voice and I have no doubt she could do this.
please can I keep it?

In a fairy tale anything is possible. Even a 60-year-old mother with a Beverly Hills face lift.
I love Laura Linney in anything so I would gladly forgive any age issues. And her voice sounds very natural in that clip. I'm sure she would make a terrific Baker's Wife.
Now cast Paul Giamatti as the Baker, and you can have a John Adams reunion!

Speaking of sixy year olds with beverly hills face lifts, wheres goldie hawn. Kidding aside she would have terrific in into the woods, as either a bakers wife or a witch. More over, the woman could have actually SUNG it live and been phenomenal. I wish...
Apparently, Goldie Hawn participated in the first reading back in the 90's. She might be too old now, but back in the day, she would have been perfect.
Felicity Huffman and William H Macy are both inspired casting and are actually quite perfect for the roles acting wise. I loved their little song on the Golden Globes last night. Talk about adorable. They might be too old, but maybe that can add to the tragic nature of the story. They might have been trying for years but they never could have a child because of the curse.
Don't forget the Baker is supposed to be Rapunzel's older brother.
Do we mean an older sibling by 35 years?

best12 i know you'll get on me for this but there can be some very wide age discrepancies in families nowadays, not thirty five years but twenty is not very uncommon any more.
Which would be fine if this weren't a fairy tale set in the middle ages.

Yes jordan but then theres that pesky word, FAIRY TALE=Suspension of disbelief. IF they choose to cast them older the audience will most likely be okay. I'm not saying cast Louise Rainer here, i'm saying there's a little wiggle room in the age department.
A little is fine but even in a fairy tale musical there is still a believability factor you need to respect.
Let's say Rapunzel is 17 years old. In the musical she's closer to 15, since she was a baby when she was locked up in the tower. Yes, they can change these ages, how long she's been locked up, etc. But that's how it's written in the source material (for what it's worth).
Even if her "older brother" was as much as 20 years her senior, the Baker would be 35-37 years old.
