Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway for the Baker and his Wife.
kate winslet as the witch is the best suggestion yet offered on this thread.
and someone mentioned kristen wiig as the baker's wife, which could be interesting..

NO, anyone but the horrible hippy that is Deschanel plus she's busy right now thank god.
btw don't Rapunzel and the Baker have to be close in age? If she were much younger, he would no doubt remember that he had a sister and not need to be informed of such by the Witch.

I don't know in one of the fairy tales when they discuss taking the children, the interlopper usally steals the child before the mother or father can even see them. I would assume this would a similair thing for the witch.

It's a fairy tale.
It still needs to make sense, or be rewritten. If they are twenty years apart when his newborn sister is kidnapped, there has to be some explanation as how he would not know he had one; otherwise we are going to think he is an idiot We already have Jack. One idiot s enough for any fairy tale village.

I was thinking in most of these tales the child is snatched so quickly after birth the parents barely even see her, or the parents could have told the baker his mother had miscarried.
I think Laura Linney would be a great Baker's Wife but it is true that she might be too old to play the role on film.
Amy Adams--who's in her late 30s but comes across as much younger on screen--would be my top choice, I find her surprising at every turn, unlike Anne Hathaway who tends to make more predictable acting choices in this type of movie. I wonder if Natalie Portman could be musical enough to pull off a role like this, I feel she can do anything.
Anna Kendrick would actually be my top choice for Cinderella and I love the idea of Abigail Breslin as Little Red though Elle Fanning would be good in the role as well.
Charlize Theron or Penelope Cruz for the Witch, please.

Thank you all that jazz. . I have no idea why half of them are so entranced by the idea of catherine zeta jones.
Wouldn't it be awesome if Jayne Wiesner played Little Red and Jamie Campbell Bower played Jack? We'd have ourselves a little Sweeney Todd reunion. :)

Jordan, the sad thing is that's just crazy enough to work. But can he act outside of voiceovers, he could sing it that's for sure, but act it. Has he done any serious work?
I don't know but that was actually a serious suggestion.

When has she done any serious, straight singing though, i mean not just for comedy puproses. Though she could be great.
I just revisited "camp" this weekend and instantly thought Anna Kendrick would make a great Cinderella!

Has no one suggested Catherine Zeta-Jones as the Witch?
And assuming that they are NOT using the same actor to play the Wolf and Cin's Prince, I'd love to see Jack Black as the Wolf!

Jon people have suggested the hell out of zeta-jones but after hearing her singing in night music, without serious vocal lessons she shouldn't be let near anohter sondheim show. It seems she has forgotten how to sing since chicago.
I think Stephen Colbert would be a hoot as Cinderella's father!
Seth McFarlane would be an interesting choice for the Baker, but he's a great right-out-of-the-box choice for The Wolf. His usual persona of the smug smirker with a great voice, and that little bit of "vaudeville camp" that also applies to Denis O'Hare would be well-used here.
