I never said anything about her. But she's much more a realistic casting choice than 25 year old GaGa.
LOL
Although, "prestige" MB? When was the last time a movie musical was cast with "prestige?" Oh, yes, NINE.
That's it, and it didn't help remotely. In fact, Day-Lewis killed it for me completely. He's a great actor. He's a terrible Guido. If you consider Les Miz to go against prestige casting, it's the exact same route taken by Chicago, Dreamgirls, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia! Two or three "movie actors" surround by pop, TV, and recording artists.
Into the Woods should be lucky to have similar successes in casting and at the box office.
I hope Marshall adds a Bollywood twist to it.
Oh, yes, please!
The witch's rap will now be a full-on Bollywood flashback.
Baz, are you listening?

I don't really see Gaga in this movie or role either, but why does the fact she's 25 seem wrong? The script literally says YOUTH and beauty. 25 is pretty youthful to me.
Granted, I'd also be on board with a well-cast 50 year old witch. Just throwing that out there.
Do "old ugly act 1 witch" and "young beautiful act 2 witch" even need to be played by the same actress? They could double cast the role with say...Madonna and Gaga (that's a joke. But you know what I mean.) Patti LuPone could transform into Katy Perry or something.

Well people like Christina, Fergie, Britney, Justin, Mylie, and Efron (to name a few) were child actors. I'm not saying they were playing dramatic roles but they showed up every damn day and worked with coaches and learned their lines. They worked with real actors and all could do movies. They all went through a sausage-making factory, it might not be turning out Streeps but these musical roles aren't that deep. I can guarente if this film gets made it is wont be "serious." Doogie however, get's a pass for some reason..
So much hate for Beyonce when J-hud had way less experience working on film. I'm sure Gaga is perfectly capable I just don't understand the regard for her "genius." That HBO concert and Thanksgiving special were pretty awful television and her "acting" in them was flat.

It's because he proved himself by working in real musicals, and very deep and serious ones at that. Is he right for woods? No Will he be considered? Yes. As for deep and serious, it requires a very intresting character act and having real actors do those parts will only help show that. Part of it is because it is more sudtle. The hate directed beyonce is proably partly because she had traning and look where it got her. I don't either fine but could she do a decent even great last midnight yes, could she with work with the proper acting couch, give a decent even good second act interpretation.
All joking aside, if Gaga were to play the Witch, that movie would have a HUGE opening. Then if it's actually GOOD on top of that, you have a big hit on your hands.
To me, it comes down to "Stay With Me." That's where the Witch really has to sing AND act. The rest is "show" and "smoke" and "mirrors" (sometimes quite literally). I also think whoever plays the Witch will want to do BOTH sides of her: ugly and pretty. That's what makes it a showy role. Not just one side. But I also think it's an interesting idea to have two actresses play her. In a film, anything is possible, including morphing them together at one point (voice of one, body of another, etc.).
I wouldn't put it past them to see the Witch as the role to bring people in. Either a huge movie star or recording star. Then they'll cast the other parts around her. And no, GaGa at 25 is not too young for the Witch, once she is revealed to be pretty. (But is she pretty enough? Answer: It's Lady Gaga, so who cares?)

I imagine that with some lighting and makeup anything is possible
Just because she is a huge recording star doesn't necessarily mean she would have a huge box office following for a film- I mean Madonna didn't exactly create a box office sensation at the peak of her music career
I changedy mind. Julie Andrews as Jacks Mother.
In all seriousness, I can see Marshall, Sondheim, and Lapine making a cameo for Bernadette. Similar to Chita in CHICAGO.
If they were willing to sacrifice a name, why not have her play Cinderella's Stepmother? She played that role in the awful R&H TV movie with Brandy.

Why can't bernadette do the giants wife? I thought that was an awesome suggestion.

Can sarah do that really high note, if so she would be killer. Great idea.
A Bernadette cameo would be great, but the Stepmother is bigger than a cameo. It's a small role. You need one scene ... or even one good shot with a line or two.
Could she be in a flashback about the Baker or the Wtich when they sing/talk about their pasts?
