He told me it would be a waste just to promote someone whos doing this for 2 weeks.
Well, this box office dude isn't a producer and a producer would feel differently, despite it being a short stay for Springer. His stay will be and has been promoted.
I dont really consider this "Stunt Casting" then.
It is stunt casting.
For the record, I happen to think Jason Patrick Sands is very talented, his phenomenal body notwithstanding.
I'm very curious to see his Billy!
ps. does that sound wrong?

Kev when Sammantha harris joined ship the theater put out a huge banner weeks before her debut.
The people in times square giving out the coupons has signs saying "NOW WITH DANCING WITH THE STARS SAMMANTHA HARRIS"
all before she even joied the show. I didnt even know who she was till then tbh
But springer is joing in about 1 week and I have not seen one single poster advertising him.
Maybe within the week we will see something but I doubt it.
Its gonna cost money to promote springer and its crazy too just for 2 weeks and considering hes going to miss a few shows.
double post sorry

Harris had a lengthy (well, for CHICAGO) stay of six weeks, and was the main draw during a busy summer period. Of course there was going to be more promotion surrounding her contract.
There won't be cardboard fans handed out in Times Square with Springer's face on them. But, Springer will receive the same amount of press that someone like Chandra Wilson received for a similar short stint. And even minimal advertising, for a three-week stunt cast, is not a waste for the producers.
I also wonder if Jason Patrick Sands' Billy matches his talents.
Talented or not, I'd be his dummy any day.
I dont really consider this "Stunt Casting" then. I think more a favor to Springer who just really wanted to perform on Broadway (Although ticket sales from him appering obv. they wouldnt mind that)
Name that sells tickets --> stunt casting. You think if he weren't famous and wouldn't sell a gabillion tickets, they'd be doing him this "favor"?
Also, non-actor/non-theatre person/non-anything that involves talent in a lead role = stunt casting.
Jason Patrick Sands and his Nipples, riding to the rescue.
("Nipples" is the horse's name. What did you THINK I meant?)

Actually, do a YouTube search on this guy. He seems to be very talented.
Why is he soooo hot...?
I saw Jerry Springer as Billy Flynn in London - he was surprisingly good and can actually sing (although he was called back to audition his singing voice after getting the part).

Hey, Springer's not nearly as terrible as I thought he would be. He can actually sort of sing. Good for him.
OOOH! With clothes.

I gotta say, I'm impressed. He definitely LOOKS like a Billy should look. I'm very satisfied with this casting choice.
He does, the majority of Billys too old. I remember seeing Alan Thicke as Billy, his singing and acting was decent but he looked out of place with the rest of the cast.
Here's another great one

Well...he's pretty damn dreamy.
This is still happening, right? I really want to see Springer as Billy Flynn. It's so perfect LOL.
Saw the show tonight!
Samantha Harris was surprisingly fantastic! One of the most bubbly Roxies I've seen. She seemed like a real pro up there. Her singing and dancing (for the most part) were up to par with the regular Broadway Roxies. I really enjoyed her acting, a lot! Some really great ad-libs!
Amra gave a standard Velma performance, nothing too special.
I saw Jason Patrick Sands as Billy! Yay! I liked him, but maybe I'm biased? He was very charming and suave. And he hit the big money note perfectly. A very sexy Billy, but that was expected.
Ray Bokhour as Amos = *yawn*
I've seen R. Lowe before, but "she" has to be one of the best Mary Sunshines ever!
The show was in great shape!

I saw the show with ljay tonight and mostly agree.
Samantha Harris was great! Much better than I expected. Lots of fun.
Not a fan of Wright's Velma. Ehh.
Sands was ok, not my favorite. He was fine, and he grew on me, but there are others I've liked better.
I enjoyed Ryan, Bokhour, and Lowe.
Show in pretty good shape, overall.
Random sidebar...seated near the rear of the orchestra, and I have to comment on how loud the people who worked the bar were. Near intermission as they were setting up they were very loud, and were actually pouring buckets of ice into something. It was really loud. And then during act 2, I had to hear the clanky bottles as they put them away. Very, very distracting.
