That "checking in" bit confuses me too. I wish they'd be a bit clearer about what that will entail.

I was there for the filming at "The Band's Visit." They stuffed a paper in our Playbills inviting us to stay for a few moments after the performance ended to be involved in the filming. After hyping the crowd up (which wasn't hard to do after an exceptional show with a more than impressed audience) Katrina changed into her "Omar Sharif" dress and the band came out in uniform. They began filming, the band played the classic music they use in commercials and Katrina Lenk said something along the lines of "From the company of the 10 time Tony Award winning musical "The Band's Visit" we wish you a New Years full of good food, good music, and love." Then Sasson Gabai threw his arm in the air and the camera panned out to the crowd and we all shouted "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" It was a lot of fun! I have the CNN broadcast set to record so I can watch! :)

This whole announcement was incredibly misleading and disappointing. When the show first began they showed the cast of "Wicked". To me, the only highlights of the CNN NYE show were seeing what Patti Labelle was cooking at her NYE party, Faye Dunaway talk about returning to Broadway, with Anderson Cooper bragging about his mother's sexual liasons and the telephone call from Cher...

I totally agree. The whole Broadway thing was misleading as they only showed pre-filmed footage of each show's cast on stage wishing everyone a Happy New Year then the camera panning out to the audience cheering. There's their Broadway inclusion.
And yes, Faye Dunaway joining Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper for an extensive chat, was quite a highlight. She not only looked fantastic but was a joy interacting with both hosts and talking about Broadway (she saw NETWORK in London and loved it and raved about Bryan Cranston's performance), her film career and of course, her return to Broadway in TEA AT FIVE.
