Doyle's not going to win a second year in a row. No way, unfortunately.

I'm putting my money on Cerveris this year because he didn't win for "Sweeney" and is giving a wonderful performance in "LoveMusik". Updated On: 5/19/07 at 02:54 PM

I was so unimpressed with LoveMusik. I just don't think the material was strong enough for Michael to really shine at his highest level.

"When something is in question, there's always some poster who hears from a "reliable" source what is really supposed to happen, if that makes sense. It's how rumors start. No one is saying your right or wrong, but an official printed source is more trusting than someone coming on here and saying they heard something"
Right--I do get that completely. I guess I shoulda just stayed outa it.
(and I meant ex wife--yeah it's tacky to address family issues on here but I assumed the whole Broadway world knew, thanks to his interview, about her status)
they should be doing 'getting married today'... heather laws... WHOOOO!

it's too bad that they aren't going to be having the whole cast/orchestra, it seems to taint to integrity of the new production, especially with a show that is so well known. However, if they were to pick a song to do without the full orchestra, i guess that "being alive" would be a good one to do, considering that is rececetitive (or however you spell that) on piano.
i'm really hoping that raul wins the tony, too. he was incredible.
EricMontreal: I wasn't aware of an article about his wife or anything. Usually I am not up-to-date with theater gossip (who's dating who, who's divorcing who).

No worries--to be honest usually I'm not either--but the Raul New York Times interview (where he came out, etc) was such a big, bloated deal and was all over this board as well, just before the revival opened, I figured everyone knew
Well, it wasn't really "gossip." Yeah, it was about his personal life, but it's not like it was just internet gossip or a tabloid; it was in the New York Times.
And like Eric said, he came out, so it was a pretty big deal. I think it's archived now, so you can't get to it without a paid account, unfortunately.

You can if you do it through your school/public library catalogue, thats how I reread it the other day.
The site's letting me view it without an account...
Breaking Character for the First Time in His Life
Oh, weird. I thought things just automatically stopped being accessible after a certain period of time.
His "coming out" was not really a suprise, more a pubkicity stunt that backfired.

How did it backfire?
Yeah, the site wouldn't let me access it for a couple of months (it said I needed an account to view it), but then I searched for it this morning and there it was.
A lot of people thought he did this as nothing more than publicity for the show, and while there are conflicting opinions, we'll probably never know what the motivations really were. There was some other interview from around the opening where he claimed that the article wasn't what he expected, and that he thought it was going to focus on his value as an artist. But the writer (who, if I recall correctly, has a background in gossip columns) did what writers do, and went after the juicier stuff. Anyway, if you subscribe to the theory that it was a publicity stunt, it backfired in two ways -- the show is still doing poorly (although at the time, it was doing much, much better than it is now) and there was a lot of backlash aimed at Raul for things that he said in the interview; his sexuality wasn't surprising to many people in the business who already knew, but to some who had no idea, of course, it was. Personally, I was surprised he talked about it in an interview, which I never expected him to do. There's a thread on the article, somewhere. It's really interesting, I'll see if I can find it.

I see. I know the thread you're talking about, I was looking at it the other day. I didnt know that it was considered by some to be a publicity stunt for the show, though. But you're right - this was in November, they were doing much better at that time.

Do you think that his coming out in the NY Times article was to due to the problems with "Taboo" and to possibly beat Rosie O'Donell to the punch? Just throwing it out...
What do you mean, that he might have been afraid Rosie would out him first, so he wanted to do it himself? Anything is possible, but Taboo was three years ago. I kind of think that if that were the motivating issue, he would've done it a while ago. If he was trying to beat Rosie to the punch, and was legitimately concerned that she might do something, why would he wait three years, you know?
Since you brought up Rosie. Does anyone else think it's odd she's not plugging Company more on The View? She obviously has a connection to Raul and the show could deff. use the free advertising.

There has to be bad blood between Raul and Rosie because if he was on her good side (like Christine Ebersole) she would be promoting the show like she is doing for "Grey Gardens".

I don't think it's odd at all. The woman has a life outside of Broadway and The View. She hasn't seen EVERYTHING. There are plenty of shows she hasn't plugged.
A few months ago she gave tickets to the audience and said "I haven't seen it but I've heard it's great."

And yet, she's had the time to see Spring Awakening 7 times and have both Audra and Christine guest host on The View.
Of course it's suspicious, especially after that video on Broadway.com was edited to take out her snarky comment about Raul.

Thank You Orangeskittles! I knew something smelt fishy about the whole Raul and Rosie thing. But we digress...
I can't really see Rosie promoting any Sondheim show. Regardless of the star.
