This show was so much fun! Laughed through almost the whole thing. They could redo the country club scene and trim act 1 but I was loving this show. I saw it last night and was prepared for the worst becaue of some of the poison filled reviews of the show on this board. Go ahead and call me a shill for liking it, You can tell yourself what you like BUT I call those people who say its the worst show ever a shills for a competing production & trying to ruin a wonderful night in the theatre.
I would recomments this show to anybody! You might love it. I Did. Its pure camp and comedy and succeeds brilliantly at it. I think the score was great. And the lyrics were very clever. I'm Infected was a very funny parod of the 1950's love song. I have had it in my head all night. Rob Ashfords choreography is some of the best work on the stage today. Girl Can I Kiss You WIth Tongue AND I'M A LITTLE UPSET had some of the funniest and most clever staging I have seen in awhile. I agree the leads could use a better character arch, They fall in love a little quickly but this is a parody so I didnt mind to much. The sets and costumes did not look cheap, they looked great. I thought the design painted a real pretty picture that helped accent the comic book natre of the piece. AND lastly there have been some very innovative shows this season. IN THE HEIGHTS & PASSING STRANGE both pushed the envelope and I respect them a lot for that but I had more fun in CRY-BABY than either of those. And this is the first show this season that I would take my out of town family to see. It is something that can be enjoyed by others besides theatre savvy new yorkers. Just had to post becaue I had such a different reaction than so many of the other posts on this website. After reading this i'm sure there will a ton of people who bash me for this post or say I'm shill but they would be wrong. Just someone who loved this show and had a wonderfully fun night at the theatre! Thanks.

Dear Shill,
Looking at the other posts you've made on this board -- the last one being in December (four months ago), asking when DROWSY CHAPERONE (former tenant of The Marquis, where CRY-BABY now resides) was going to post a closing notice, and the three others stating strong opinions about the strike, I can't help but notice that you obviously have some sort of connection to the industry and to CRY-BABY.
Your opinions are biased, baseless, worthless, and an insult to people on this board actually considering investing their hard earned money in a ticket to this crap fest.

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

Posted: 3/20/08 at 12:08pmIt's always a pleasure to meet a nice opened minded person. WOW, you just cannot take the fact that maybe I liked it and you didnt? My opinion is just as valid as yours. But because I liked Cry-Baby and you didnt my opinion is worthless? That's a real nice arguement. I think your opinion is worthless. I have no connection to this show. I posted about Drowsy 4 months ago because I loved that show. Saw it 7 times actually. and thought it was a valentine to broadway. If it could have, I would have wished it to run another 2 years. And yes I did have strong opinions about the strike. It hurt broadway very badly and everyone on all sides lost a lot in that battle. Opinions are just opinions. It does not make people a shill. But if it makes you feel like a better person to tear down others who disagree with you than you go right ahead and I hope it makes you feel better about yourself.

First & foremost- I have nothing against the show.
Its just almost all the REGULAR posters- meaning people who posted all the time, not just people who joined recently and age above 20 are ALL saying the same thing. If I have extra time.. I will find posters who seen the shows and post what they say vs. people who like the show and post what they say..You would see a pattern. Go Figure.
Edit: Poster who "unfortunately" dislike the show pointed as to why?
There is a saying that...

i dont think NoelandCole have done anything wrong by posting their opinion, i agree we tend to get a lot of people on here who suddenly join up to praise a show that is getting bad word of mouth but that does not seem to be the case here.
Could it just be that *holds breath* the poster actually liked the show
Even bad musicals have there fans, Look at the Pirate Queen or Rent Remixed...some people on here loved them.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and even if the show is a clunker it will still have fans.....hell i found Good Vibrations to be fun.

Augh! Through the heart, Jay!
It came down to me not wanting to pay full price to see something I've already seen, her hating "Gypsy" and me thinking she probably wouldn't like "Passing Strange." I thought the show was a safe bet. Rationalization, rationalization, rationalization.

That's an interesting theory...
Maybe we don't just dislike a show. Maybe we're actually shills for EVERY other show on Broadway!

I saw the show last night. Aside from Alli Mauzey, who stole the show, and Harriet Harris, who was sadly not given much to do, I can't say I was overly impressed. The choreography was fine. (In the Heights' coreography was better.)
The show is nowhere near as good as Hairspray.
I did find one comment as I was leaving interesting (this should go in that ridiculous comments overheard thread). Two guys were talking about the music, and one asked the other who wrote the score, and the other said: Stephen Sondheim. The other nodded his head in approval.
I just shook my head.

Here's my review (saw it Monday night):
I laughed, because it was so preposterous.
I cried, because I'll never get those two and a half hours back.
I stood up at the end, because I couldn't get out of the theater fast enough.
Spencer Liff is quite the hottie and made for a great distraction.

Well, I always try to be fair and give others the benefit of the doubt ! Noel joined 4 MONTHS ago ! That's not what you'd call standard shill practice ! Maybe he doesn't want to post much but only read ! If he did like the show, it is natural he'd want to defend it ! Guys, SOME people will like the show, it's inevitable, do we have to tear them to shreds ?
I have tickets for the show ! Am I optimistic ? Definitely not ! Do I hope I'll like it ? Sure, so my money and time won't go to waste ! But If I'll like it, should I be afraid to say it, since most posters here hated it ? Of course I won't be called a shill, but I am sure that my taste, judgement, even state of mind will be questioned if it is my cup of tea ! I will say it again for the millionth time ! It's a matter of taste and taste IS ALWAYS SUBJECTIVE !!
Peace
