Not surprising. There’s just no feasible way to social distance in a show and continue to turn a profit. Quite heartbreaking for everyone

Sir Mackintosh crystallized it for everyone. When social distancing is no longer needed theatre can come back, but not a day before. It would be disheartening and absurd.
When I saw Stephen Ward in London, the audience engaged in social distancing. That may not have been the intent - but it was the reality!

I listened to the interview and, as prepared as I am for a 2021 reopening to be the scenario, I never actually heard him say "next year". He did point out that it will take four or five months to get everything up and running again, which makes sense to me.
